Cuba Nears COVID-19 Victory With No New Deaths For 9 Consecutive Days
Republicworld.com, June 9, 2020 - While coronavirus continues to rage throughout the Americas, Cuba, the Caribbean island nation, nears declaring COVID-19 victory. According to an international media report, the nation took a rigorous approach to contain the spread of the deadly virus. Currently, two-thirds of the island is reportedly virus-free and the island has also been recording less than 10 cases per day.

48Hills, May 28, 2020- One morning along a street with cracked sidewalks and houses with fading paint, Dr. Liz Caballero and two medical students stopped at every door in that part of Havana’s Vedado district. During normal times, these neighborhood doctors practice preventative medicine. Now, they participate in a full-blown campaign against the COVID 19 pandemic.

Dr. Caballero knocked on a door and asked if anyone in the house had a fever or other COVID 19 symptoms. The resident replied everyone was fine.


United Arab Emirates sends medical aid to Cuba

OnCuba, June 5, 2020-   
The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent an airplane with eight tons of medical supplies to Cuba this Thursday, to help the task of doctors and health personnel against the  coronavirus  pandemic.


Cuba sends medical brigades to Kuwait and Guinea Conakry
OnCuba, June 6, 2020-
More than 300  Cuban health workers  traveled this Thursday to Kuwait and the Republic of Guinea Conakry to assist in the control of  COVID-19  in those countries.
The two groups, mostly female, are made up of specialists with experience in other missions outside the island as part of the Henry Reeve international medical contingent.

 The first Cuban medical brigade of the "Henry Reeve" contingent that arrived in Italy on March 22 to help the European country face the COVID-19 pandemic will return to the Caribbean island this Monday afternoon.

Cuba decries at Unesco impact of blockade on Covid-19 fight
Prensa Latina, Paris, June 8, 2020- Cuba denounced on Monday at the sixth extraordinary session of Unesco's Executive Board the obstacle that the United States blockade represents to its efforts to deal with the Covid-19.

The pandemic highlights the enormous restrictions imposed by the United States with its economic, commercial and financial siege, which constitutes the main obstacle to access to the necessary medicines, materials and health equipment, said Oscar Leon, the island's representative to the Council, at the virtual forum.


Marriott says Trump administration ordered it to cease Cuba hotel business
CNBC, June 5, 2020- The Trump administration has ordered  Marriott International  to wind down hotel operations in Communist-run Cuba, a company spokeswoman told Reuters, extinguishing what had been a symbol of the U.S.-Cuban detente.

Starwood Hotels, now owned by Marriott, four years ago became the first U.S. hotel company to sign a deal with Cuba since the 1959 revolution in the mark of the normalization of relations pursued by former President Barack Obama.


Cuba rejects new U.S. sanctions
OnCuba, June 4, 2020- The Cuban government “strongly” rejected the sanctions announced this Wednesday by the United States Department of State, which added seven Cuban entities to a “black list” of firms with which Americans are prohibited from making any transaction.

“I strongly reject sanctions announced by Secretary (Mike) Pompeo #EEUU against 7 #Cuba entities, designed to affect Cuban families,” Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez wrote on his Twitter account.
