The Range Report
January 16, 2020
From the PHA Club Board of Directors...
The PHA Club Board of Directors would like to thank Ruth McDonald for the many years of service to our club. She worked tirelessly as we grew from 250 members to over a thousand members today. Over the past 15 years Ruth has served as Recording Secretary and Membership Secretary for PHA Club, served and helped PHA Range II to get started, and was the Recording Secretary for PHA Range. In addition to Ruth, the Board would like to thank David McDonald and Jennifer McDonald for their support in PHA as well.
The PHA Club Board of Directors would like
to welcome Brad Grimes as our new PHA Membership Secretary.

Brad has been a member of PHA for 12 years and is also a member of PHA II. He is a Life Member in the NRA, a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor and a Range Safety Officer. Brad enjoys shooting and volunteering with PHA. He is self-employed as an Investment Advisor. He has been assisting with new members for several years.

If you have membership questions or issues, you may contact Brad at bgrimes@phashoots.

All of our Board members are available to help you and can be reached through the Contacts page of the PHA website.
You're kidding, right?...
Nope. This is an article I thought I would never have to write.

One or more of our members thought it would be fun to place a pumpkin in one of the pistol bays and shoot it into pieces. Then walk away and expect someone else to clean up after them. This is a serious violation of the Range Rules.

Please leave your fruits and vegetables at home in your own garden. We don't want them here. We are reviewing camera footage of the pistol bay areas to see if we can determine who did this. If caught, there will be consequences.

We also continue to find .223 shells in the pistol bay areas. This means that eventually the metal targets will be damaged to a point where they will have to be replaced. These steel targets are not cheap. If you see something, please say something to a Board member.

Please, no rifle caliber ammo, as well as certain magnum calibers, are to be shot in the pistol bays.
(We're looking for these offenders as well.)
Friends of NRA-North Carolina
The North Carolina Friends of NRA conducts money raising events periodically that supports youth shooting and firearms safety programs in our state. The money raised at these events are not used by the NRA for any other cause. It provides funds for high school and middle school shooting teams, FFA shooting programs, Boy Scout shooting programs, FFA hunter safety programs, ROTC shooting programs, 4-H shooting programs, American Legion junior shooting sports programs, and Merit Scholarships for Community College gunsmithing programs. All the money raised in North Carolina stays in North Carolina.

I had the pleasure of attending the event in November when the money was distributed and divided among the many youth programs in our state in need of funding. We, as a Shooting Club, need to be more active in supporting the Friends of NRA.

The NRA Friends banquet is being held this year on March 20th. They serve a wonderful dinner. There are raffles for guns and equipment. There will be a silent auction and a regular auction. If you have never been to this event, it is wonderful program for a great cause.
You do NOT have to be a member of NRA to purchase a ticket and attend.

Individual tickets are $35.00 for a single person.

A Patriot's table is also available. A Patriot's table seats eight people ($125 per Patriot) and costs $1000. That includes 8 tickets and 8 knives per table. Each person at the table has a 1 in 8 chance of winning a firearm from the prize list. If you're interested in sitting at a table but lack 7 others, no problem. We will do our very best to book you at a table with 7 other individuals so that you will have a 1 in 8 chance at winning a gun of your choice. This event is held at the Richard Childress complex in Welcome.

N.C. Friends of NRA is a 501.3c organization. If you would like to purchase the entire table, there is a tax deduction available. Or if you would like to make a simple donation, that is also tax deductible.

Please remember that the more youth we get into our sport, the stronger and longer our future will last.

Please contact me for tickets or information.
Thank you.

High Power Match for 2020
2020 PHA HIGH POWER MATCH
PRELIMINARY BULLETIN

PHA High Power matches will be held on the dates listed below. The NRA Approved Match dates are tentative pending NRA approval.

Please note some changes in our schedule and procedure. A more
complete bulletin will be listed on the web site and sent to all competitors soon.

1. All competitors (per PHA rules) will be required to attend the safety briefing prior to firing in the match. If someone fails to be there at the time of the briefing, they will not be allowed to compete.
2. All competitors are expected to arrive early in order to assist in the set up of targets and get the range ready for the match. Understanding that sometimes things don’t go as we planned; an exception can be made occasionally but PLEASE DO NOT BEING LATE A HABIT. It impacts on everyone.
3. This year the gate will open at 0800, set up should start by 0820, Safety Briefing will be at 0845, and match start will be at 0900. Times will apply to all matches, whether NRA or our Vintage ones.

The above are the major changes we have implemented this year. There may be a few other minor ones, Wayne and I have discussed, that we will have as to firing position, etc., but we will work those out over the next couple of matches. Block time will be again be used for all SF stages for prep time, sighters (first stage only), and
shots for record.

PHA VINTAGE MATCHES:
25 JAN, 22 FEB, 28 MARCH, and 28 NOV

REQUESTED NRA MATCH DATES:
18 APRIL, 23 MAY, 27 JUNE, 25 JULY, 22 AUG, 19 SEPT, and 24 OCT.

Vintage matches will consist of 30 rds (10 prone SF, 10 sitting (or prone) RF, and 10 standing SF. Competitors may fire the course twice with the same or a different rifle. Priority will be given to vintage rifles, but modern will be accepted pending firing point
availability.

NRA matches will consist of 80 rds (20 standing SF, 20 sitting RF, 20 prone RF, and 20 prone SF) using 200 yd, 200 yd, 300 yd simulated, and 600 yd simulated NRA targets respectfully. Competitors MAY fire a maximum of 5 sighters prior to starting the 200 yd standing SF stage.

WE WILL POST ON THE WEBSITE AND EMAIL TO PAST COMPETITORS ANY CHANGES AND UPDATES, AS WELL AS THE FINAL BULLETIN WHEN COMPLETED.

One Note: We are expecting to have the firing area concreted soon. This will keep everyone out of the mud and make positioning more consistent. We do not anticipate that there will be an impact on match dates, but info will be posted and emailed if it does.
