The Range Report
October 1, 2020
ATTENTION
Due to a hard, short rain, (3 inches in one hour) the 100-yard bridge over the creek has been damaged. Therefore, the 100-yard berm is NOT accessible at this time.

We are awaiting a proposal from a contractor for the necessary repairs and also exploring alternatives.

We will make an announcement in this spot as to when the bridge will re-open and the 100-yard berm is accessible again.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

REMINDER

ATTENTION TO ALL PHA MEMBERS!

ALL PHA MEMBERS MUST WEAR THEIR PHA ID BADGES
ON THEIR PERSON (NOT ON YOUR RANGE BAG, NOT HANGING ON THE REARVIEW MIRROR OF YOUR VEHICLE, OR ANYWHERE ELSE) AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON PHA PROPERTY.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

If anyone asks about your badge, do not take it personally.
Just show your badge and thank them for asking.

PHA Board of Directors.
ATTENTION ALL PHA MEMBERS!
EFFECTIVE Friday, September 4

All PHA matches will continue their normal schedule. However, we still must still follow a few NC restrictions while shooting matches.

They are:

  • While shooting outdoors, no more than 50 people will be allowed to participate in ANY PHA match.
  • Everyone shooting the match must maintain the 6-foot separation.
  • All match shooters, match directors, and RSO's must wear protective masks.
  • No food can be provided at any match.

If these requirements cannot be complied with at any match, then the match must be canceled. These requirements will remain in place until the NC Governor relaxes them again. And we'll report those changes in the Range Report.

Also, the guest restriction has now been removed. Please follow the normal limitation, 2 per member, for guests you bring PHA Range.

Upcoming Matches
5-Stand Shotgun

The 5-Stand shotgun for this Saturday
will be starting at 9 am.

NEW: The 5-Stand shotgun for this Sunday
will start at noon.
Important 5-Stand Shotgun Announcement.

You have repeatedly heard the call for volunteers for 5-Stand. Kevin Huff and Paul Van Valen have stepped up. Unfortunately, 2 is not enough. More volunteers are still needed.

So, due to the shortage of volunteers, the 5-stand schedule has now changed, effective October 3.

Saturday 5-stand shotgun:
1st Saturday of each month: 9 am - noon.
2nd Saturday of each month: 9 am - noon.
3rd Saturday of each month: NO MATCH
4th Saturday of each month: NO MATCH
5th Saturday (4 times a year): NO MATCH

Sunday 5-stand shotgun:
1st Sunday of each month: 12 pm to 3 pm
2nd Sunday of each month: NO MATCH
3rd Sunday of each month: 12 pm - 3 pm
4th Sunday of each month: 12 pm - 3 pm
5th Sunday (4 times a year): 12 pm - 3 pm.

This is what happens when there is a lack of volunteers who won't commit to help run the 5-stand matches. With enough volunteers, it only requires each person to commit to one morning or one afternoon a month to keep these matches operating. Each match, at a minimum, requires 2 people (preferably 3. 4? Even better.).

Who knows. You just might meet new people and make new friends.

It is quite puzzling that with 1400+ members, we can not get enough volunteers to help with the 5-stand match.
Will You be the one to Help?

If you are interested in helping, please contact Rick Muetzel via email and let him know that you want to help. The entire club thanks you and needs your support!
Falling Plate Match

Rest Match Results

Rain, rain go away was the chant Thursday at the BR match. As you would expect, rain and paper targets don't go well together.

Even with the "unkind" weather, I saw some of the best target shooting of the year. In the open-site match, the very best score you can possibly get is a 300 with 30x's. Vince & Tom tied at a score of 300 with 29x's, one shy of a perfect score. That is incredible shooting. The X-ring on a A-23 target is only .375.

In the factory class and sporter class, we had 6 shooters, all with a score of 250 and the only difference came down to the X count. This is also very impressive. We did not see this kind of shooting at the first of the year. Shooting like this just doesn't happen. These
guys come out and practice in all kinds of weather. So that tells you, practice does make a difference.

We had a 3 way tie for the Harbor Freight "prestigious" award, with Tom, Dennis & David shooting the X-ring out of target 13.

Match results:

Factory - 50 yards
First-Tom Whitlow - Anschutz - 250 - 13x's
2nd David Motsinger - CZ452 - 250 - 12x's
3rd Paul Brinkman - CZ457 - 250 - 10x's

Sporter - 50 yards
First - Vince Swicegood - Winchester 52 - 250 - 17x's
2nd - Dennis Mueller - Cooper 57M - 250 - 11x's

Open-site 50 yards
First - Vince Swicegood - Winchester 52 - 300 - 29x's
2nd - Tom Whitlow - Remington 40X - 300 - 29x's

If you are planning to shoot our matches, you had better hurry up! Our last matches are Oct. 17th & Oct. 22nd.

Hope to see you there!

Annual Membership Renewal
is Underway.

This is for all members in all PHA organizations.
Everything you need to know.

The annual membership renewal is underway.

Everything was mailed in an envelope via US Mail from PHA on July 3. This envelope contains all the forms that you need to renew your membership for the coming year.

NOTE: PHA Annual Club members (NOT stockholders) must also include a check for $125 for their annual dues.

NOTE: If you do not sign all your renewal documents and/or if you do not include your annual dues payment, if required, your new membership card will not be issued to you. All your documents will be returned to you to be completed. You will have to re-submit everything. This will delay the issuance of your new membership card.

NOTE: If a PHA Club member anticipates a difficulty, due to job, medical reasons, or any other reason, in paying their annual dues, contact President Ray Owens prior to September 1, 2020.

If you haven't renewed your membership, you're almost out of time.

  • September 1. PHA membership renewals are due on this day.

  • September 30. This was the final day to renew your membership without penalty. Your renewal information must have been postmarked September 30 or before in order to avoid a penalty.

  • October 1 to December 31. Memberships renewed during this time will incur a $50 penalty in addition to the $125 annual dues.
  • December 31. This is the final day that dues + penalty will be accepted. If you have not renewed by this date, you will be officially dropped from the PHA membership rolls. If you renew after this date, you must re-apply as a brand-new member and pay the new member fees.

If you have any questions, please contact the

Cut this out and tape it on the refrigerator.

The PHA Range Board of Directors is looking for a some part-time volunteers for two of the PHA officers. PHA is growing and that means there is more to do in the "back office" of PHA.

The two officers are: Secretary, Membership Secretary.

If you are interested in any of the two areas, or want more information, click on one of the buttons below and let them know. They will get back to you soon.
PHA Safety Reminder

Any acts of vandalism observed should be reported to a board member immediately or as soon as possible to allow for a review of the cameras to identify the responsible party.

If possible, (without confrontation) an attempt should be made to identify the person committing the vandalism by name, description, or license plate number and description of vehicle.
