Upcoming Trustee Elections

This spring, MPERS active members and retirees will have the opportunity to vote on trustee positions. There will be a total of five elections. Trustees with terms expiring on June 30, 2022, are Chief G. Scott Ford (Chiefs District I), Chief Dwayne Munch (Chiefs District II), Larry Reech (Retiree District II), and Kelly Gibson (Retiree District I). There will also be an election for the second Chiefs District II position (due to Chief Glaser's upcoming retirement), which will be for an unexpired term set to end on June 30, 2023.

On January 10, 2022, Chairman Ford called for the elections and opened nominations. Members should keep an eye on their mailboxes in early April for more information from Election Services Co. on how to request a nomination packet.

MPERS Member Portal

In late December of 2020, MPERS launched a new Member Portal in conjunction with the new pension administration system, aptly named PATROLE (Pension Administration Technology for Retiring Our Law Enforcers).

Active members are able to run estimates, upload relevant documents, update addresses and beneficiaries, and much more. Retirees are able to upload documentations as well as download award letters, change tax elections, and view their 1099s.

Contact MPERS at 225-929-7411 if you would like help getting connected to the portal. The first step is to request a PIN letter.

MPERS Reports 26.1% Investment Return for Fiscal Year 2021

For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, MPERS' investment portfolio realized a gross-of-fees, all-time high return on investment assets of 26.1%. The System earned 10.2% for the trailing five-year period, 7.8% for the trailing ten-year period, and 6.8% for the trailing thirty-year period. The asset allocation is chosen by the Board of Trustees with the guidance of its investment consultant, NEPC, to produce an optimal mix of assets while minimizing risk.

And, before you ask, we will meet the statutory requirements to grant a COLA. The board will schedule a special meeting in June to consider granting one. Stay tuned!
