The Warmth of Community

Forgiveness and Caregiving Decisions

Dwight Wilson, Executive Director

I have the honor of taking calls from caregivers and family members who want support for the care of those they love. Often the dying person has days or weeks to live.

Many of these conversations tend to include the caregiver’s concern about whether they are making the right decisions, issues of regret, and what they could do better or differently during their loved one’s care.

I would like to offer an insight to help lift the caregiving burden of “doing it right.” Please know that every decision you make is the right decision. Your greatest value as a caregiver and/or family member is your gift of presence.

Caregiving is hard. It can and does take a toll on those in this role, especially if it goes on for a while. It also becomes more difficult if the caregiver critiques themself for past decisions or regrets and support is unavailable.

For this the holiday season, my wish is for caregivers to give themselves the freedom to realize that every caregiving decision is the right decision. You may want to make a different decision tomorrow and that is okay; it does not make yesterday’s decision wrong. Forgive yourself. By removing the burden of guilt, you are giving yourself a gift of compassion.

Have the best of the holidays.

The Impact of Your Generosity

Lily Herwald, Director of Development and Communications

As we stand on the dawn of a new year, we are grateful for your continued of Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice and Celia's House. You’ve provided light, warmth, and comfort to those we serve.

Many daily situations illustrate your generosity's profound impact: Some of those we care for have large extended families who benefit from a shoulder to cry on or a listening ear. Other individuals have lived alone in isolation and find solace and exceptional care from our professional care staff, who attend to their round-the-clock needs.

Being a donor makes situations like this possible. Your dedication to our mission fuels our commitment to creating a nurturing environment for our residents and providing comfort to their loved ones during life's most challenging moments.

Making a year-end gift is a simple yet profound act of compassion. Please help us reach our year-end goal of raising $360,000. Donate today at: https://sofriendsofhospice.org/donate-online/or mail your gift to:

217 S Modoc Avenue, Medford, OR 97504.

Every contribution matters to those we help.

Thank you for being a donor.

Quotes From Families

"Every day felt so heavy, and Celia's House somehow made everything feel a little bit lighter. It was a heartbreaking time for our family, but knowing our mom was being cared for as well as she was made us able to feel a bit of peace again." -K
