Interfaith chaplain Khaliqa Baqi long felt that serving as Chaplain of Celia’s House would be her dream job. Now, as our new Chaplain, she can confirm it.
When Celia’s House opened in 2018, Khaliqa served as a chaplain for Asante Hospice. In early 2024, she started teaching Celia’s House staff about the adverse effects of trauma and how it may impact various parts of their life. After working with Mary Piper, Celia’s House first Chaplain, Khaliqa’s dream and Mary’s evolution toward retirement seemed heaven-sent.
Mary said, “After the great honor of developing Celia’s Spiritual Care program, I can retire with the confidence that it is in the wonderfully kind, caring, and deep soul of experienced Chaplain and great human, Khaliqa.”
From a young age, Khaliqa has been drawn to the mystery of life and death. She sought spiritual guidance from many traditions and teachers. In 2014, she began her chaplaincy education and earned a Master of Divinity through Tibetan Buddhism and Unitarian Universalism studies. She was also ordained a Minister in Universal Sufism.
Khaliqa has lived in the Rogue Valley since 1997 and raised her two children in the Little Applegate Valley.
