June in Bloom

Celia's House Annual Remembrance

On June 7th, we hosted families whose loved ones we cared for in 2022 at our Remembrance Ceremony. This meaningful event is held annually on the first Wednesday of June.

Our interfaith Chaplain, Mary Piper, led the ceremony. The evening featured the reading of the names of our 2022 residents by our RNs, Diane and Rose. Volunteer Coordinator Eleanor, and Kitchen Manager, Kevin recited touching poems. Then a tribute was delivered by our Spiritual Care Volunteers Annie, Emily, Bob, and Judy. Finally, the ceremony was graced by the beautiful voices of the Heartsong Singers—a group who has provided comfort through their songs at the bedside of Celia’s House residents and guests over the years.

After the ceremony, families reconnected with some of the caregivers who served their family members and shared memories of their loved ones together. Volunteers and kitchen staff made delicious appetizers and refreshments for our guests. Families then had the opportunity to visit our Reflection Garden and see their loved one’s name engraved on a memorial brick. It is our hope that families and friends of the residents we lost find solace in the tranquil surroundings of Celia’s House.

We thank everyone who joined us for this year’s Remembrance Ceremony. It was a testament to the strong bonds within the Celia’s House community. Thanks also to our dedicated staff and volunteers who helped make the evening possible.

We invite everyone to visit Celia’s House and our Reflection Garden.

A Completed Marathon and Triathlon for End-of-Life Care

June 17 and 18 was the Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival in gorgeous Bend, Oregon. Nine athletes who attend Medford’s Living Hope Church traveled to Bend to either run the Marathon or complete the Triathlon–all their efforts in support of Celia’s House and end-of-life care.

The weather in Bend was crisp and clear for Saturday's marathon–creating prime running conditions. The Triathlon event took place Sunday the 18th on Mount Bachelor and it was 30 degrees and snowing on the mountain–a big surprise for June, making the Triathlon even more challenging.

Two of the nine athletes participated in the Triathlon, despite the more intense conditions, and the rest of the athletes ran in the half or full marathon and finished.

Celia’s House is so grateful for our partnership with Living Hope Church and for the support of our community.

Flower Power of Love

A poem by Carol Stella, volunteer

We were intoxicated while gathering beautiful flowers that captured our hearts in a dimension of another world

Colorful flower arrangements that we delivered to each resident at Celia's House were placed at bedside

Their focus on the flowers shined radiant love, opening our heart beyond thoughts or words

Only stillness

We danced into this energy that holds us all; seeing the galaxies in the flowers

Fully alive

Dissolving us in the same presence

There are angels who watch over us and people we meet who touch us

With no fear, we can fly, and no light we can see another world

Quotes From Families

"The Remembrance Ceremony was wonderful. My sister and I were welcomed by staff and volunteers, and it reminded us of the incredible experience we had while our father was a resident. We met new friends and visited the memorial bricks to see our family’s inscription.

The program was lovely with the reading of resident’s names, and spiritual readings in which we could participate by saying “We remember them.” It was the essence of the evening. As we remember our loved ones, they live on in our hearts and memories with each passing season. Thank you for a beautiful evening at Celia’s House." - Lynn Black
