Honoring Life

Annual Remembrance

On May 2nd we hosted families whose loved ones we cared for in 2025 at our annual Remembrance Ceremony. Our Chaplain, Khaliqa Baqi, led the ceremony, along with several staff and volunteers.

The special afternoon began with a sound bowl session and heartfelt words, followed by RNs Christina and Rose reading the name of each resident. Volunteer Coordinator, Becky, and Kitchen Manager, James, read touching poems. Diane, RN, and Susannah, spiritual care volunteer, offered a tribute. The Heartsong Singers, a group that provides comfort with songs sung at the bedside of Celia’s House residents, lent their gentle harmonies to close the ceremony.

After the ceremony, families made their way to Celia's House Memorial Garden to visit their loved one's memorial brick. Guests shared memories and connected with staff and volunteers who cared for their family members. Volunteers made delicious appetizers and refreshments for all those in attendance.

It is our hope that families and friends of the residents we lost found meaning in the ceremony and solace in the tranquil surroundings of Celia’s House. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Remembrance Ceremony, and to the dedicated staff and volunteers who made this event possible. The gathering of families and friends, the heartfelt words of the staff and volunteers, the joyful reunion of families with caregivers, and the support of volunteers are each a testament to the strong bonds within the Celia’s House community.

We invite everyone to visit Celia’s House and our garden.

Welcome Kelly Gonzalez, Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice Development Director

Dear community,

We are delighted to introduce Kelly Gonzales as the new Development Director at Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice. Kelly brings extensive experience in development and marketing combined with a heartfelt commitment to hospice care.

She shares, "This work is so close to my heart for many reasons, one being when I was 26 years old and my mom was 56, I had the privilege of walking her home.

I cannot imagine what those final weeks would have looked like without the hospice workers and volunteers who showed up for us with such grace and humanity. The impact on our lives was immeasurable. I have carried that gratitude with me for more than 30 years and now I get to pay it forward."

Kelly brings to this role not only professional expertise in fundraising and communications, but a personal understanding of what it means to receive compassionate end-of-life care at the most vulnerable moment a family can face. She looks forward to extending that same grace and humanity to every donor relationship and community partnership she builds on behalf of Celia's House.

Starting in June, you can reach Kelly at kelly.gonzales@sofriendsofhospice.org
