I am honored to have been the Library Director since 2002. We have seen many changes over time, particularly changes in technology.

Our most important goal is to bring you the greatest and most complete variety of information and enrichment available. To that end, welcome to the new Cheboygan Area Public Library e-newsletter, in which we introduce ourselves and our services.

Meet Your Librarians
Way to go Sarah!
Sarah May is using her amazing talents to bring awareness and support to local conservation groups!

"Sarah Tule-May hopes that the donations [of 25 percent of her art sales] will start to add up and also bring each conservancy she donates to back into the eye of the public.

" 'The trails and preserves are used so often, but rarely do we think about the people who work to make sure we have those beautiful natural places preserved for future enjoyment,' she said. 'Through educational programs and public outreach programs, we can learn so much about the area we live in and the animals we share it with.' "

News!
We're featured in Cheboygan Today!
If you haven’t picked up a copy of the 2019 Cheboygan Today magazine yet, be sure to stop by the Cheboygan Chamber of Commerce to get one!

This magazine is put out by the Cheboygan Chamber and Visitors Bureau every year and features many great articles about what’s happening in Cheboygan, local business listings, exciting events, and all the things to do and see in our great community!

And this year, the magazine features a great article on the Cheboygan Area Public Library!
Check out our new Seed Library!
A seed library is a community-oriented project that allows participants to share seeds with one another by “checking out” seed packets of their choosing. A wide variety of flower, herb, fruit and vegetable seeds will be available for anyone interested to take home and plant!

The Seed Library operates on the honor system. You do not need a library card to take seeds out or to bring seeds in to share. Anyone interested in “borrowing” seeds is welcome to take out whichever seed packets interest them and you become a member automatically when you withdraw seeds to plant.
We encourage all members to learn basic seed-saving techniques. If you are unable to save your own seeds, please consider donating a packet or two of fresh, commercially grown, open-pollinated seeds to keep the Seed Library stocked. Please drop off any seed donations to the front desk.

When you check out seeds, please fill out a Member Card, located in the first drawer of the Seed Library. The first time you fill out your card, please turn it in at the front desk. If you return to borrow more seeds, you will be able to find your card, filed alphabetically by your last name, in the Membership Drawer of the Seed Library.

Just inside the main Library, our large display case is open so anyone interested can participate in our poetry fun! Poets can choose any words through the page that speak to them. They can also get creative with how they black out the text. Its fun! Come check it out! There are some examples in the display case and all the supplies you need to create a unique and beautiful Blackout Poem!

Outreach Program
This service will bring library materials to patrons that may not otherwise be able to visit the Library. Locations currently being served include the MediLodge of Cheboygan and The Brook retirement community and the first Friday of the month is when we will be visiting these off-site locations.

If a resident doesn’t have a library card and wishes to borrow items, they may bring along their driver’s license or a form of identification and be signed up for a library card on the spot.

If you know of anyone at these locations that would like to borrow material but perhaps hasn’t heard about the Library’s visits, please share their names with us so we can make sure to follow up with them on our visits.
