So

Want to hang out?

As this world spins faster, it is getting harder for all of us to make time to casually connect. One of the things I appreciate most about being on the KLT crew is that we truly value spending time together and outdoors, so it is natural for us to build from that in our work. You can see it in programs like Kaniksu Folk School's Gifts of Yuletide, at places like Pine Street Woods, and in our decision to buy Aster Garden Center. Connection is key to survival, and more importantly, to enjoying our time on this planet. It might even help it slow down.

DRY AS DIRT

Connection is on Katie's mind, as well. In her November Dry As Dirt letter to you, she reveals an organization that connects fellow land trusts and how it makes our work whole.

CONSERVATION

HABITAT CONSERVATION ON THE SAGLE PENINSULA

Thoughtfully stewarded for the past 50 years by a 4th-generation landowner, 500+ acres of forestland, meadows, and wetlands on the Sagle Peninsula of Lake Pend Oreille is on the cusp of being protected forever through a conservation agreement with KLT. For the owner, the conservation value of this land is worth so much more than its development potential:

  • Vital habitat for an array of wildlife including elk and deer
  • Productive agricultural land with high-quality soils
  • Important wetlands that support water quality
  • A priority landscape for the Kalispel Tribe

Read more about the touching story of this family land and the outstanding acts of generosity that made this project possible in our end of year email series we will be sending you soon.

NO FARMS, NO FUTURE

Boundary County's Kootenai Valley is essential for both our region's farming legacy and the wildlife that live there. With help from the NRCS Agricultural Land Easement Program, two big farm projects are almost done, and more are on the way - because No Farms = No Food (and lots of other stuff too).

GET PLOWED RESULTS

Get Plowed raised over $8,000 this year!

It’s super important to us that you can reach Pine Street Woods year-round. Some of the best days are in winter! Our Get Plowed fundraiser helps us, Sandpoint Nordic Club, and Pend Oreille Pedalers cover plowing and sanding the access road.

Huge thanks to Schweitzer, Panhandle Bike Ranch, our anonymous match, SNC, POP, Mick Duff's & Eichardt's, and to YOU for tossing in change, buying raffle tickets, and cuddling or adopting kittens at BTAA’s Cuddle Booth, which donated all proceeds. Instant warm fuzzies!

FESTIVAL OF TREES

This Friday and Saturday, you are invited to the CREC Festival of Trees in downtown Sandpoint. We are collaborating with Outdoor Experience to offer a tree decked with tiny handcrafted items and outdoor recreation-themed gifts. Our tree's theme is A Child's Adventure in Pine Street Woods and it truly captures the spirit of nature and playfulness. Will you be the one to take this tree home with you, complete with ornaments and gifts? Raffle ends at noon December 6th.

Partner Sponsors, Supporting the Work We Do Together

"I am pleased to be a Partner Sponsor of KLT. Over the years, I have witnessed this amazing organization tackle several ambitious projects and successfully complete them. The expansion into the Aster Garden Nursery is only the most recent example, and I am thrilled to support this exciting development. I’m sure there will be many, many more in the coming years."
