June 7, 2022
Greetings!
You may have heard that the Tykeson Family Foundation has gifted the Y a $1 million matching challenge to reach the $5 million Community Phase goal.

“We hope this match will aid the final sprint to the completion so construction can get underway as soon as possible,” says trustee Amy Tykeson.

So many friends of the Y have already donated to have their gift doubled or invited their friends to join the cause. THANK YOU!

As of this morning, you’ve helped us raise $291,000

If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to give, please consider making a donation today. We need your help to meet the match. We're so close!

Find your BEST JOB EVER!

We are currently hiring in almost every department. There are competitive wages, staff support, learning opportunities and a FUN environment!

Please note: There is a staffing shortage in our nation, and it is directly impacting your Y,
particularly Youth Programs.

We have waitlists for child care and other programs, and we are doing everything within our power to attract and hire qualified staff, including increasing our advertising for hiring, increasing wages and offering referral bonuses, just to name a few.

Please help us spread the word to job seekers that the Y is a great place to work!

Teen Training Appointments
12- to 15-year-olds interested in using the Health and Wellness Center will need to complete two 1-hour teen training sessions with a Wellness Coach. We'll create a program for your teen based on their goals, experience, and current activities that are appropriate for their physical development stage while focusing on safety and education. We'll also cover what is expected of a teen participant and make sure we squeeze in some fun. Visit the Welcome Center to schedule an appointment!

8- to 12-year-olds can use the Health & Wellness Center under close adult supervision, but never alone. We encourage our families to sign up for your free Family Training to work with our Wellness Coaches.

ART FOR ALL WALL

Join us in welcoming former Y staff member, Nora Elam, to the Y's Art for All Wall. Her show, The Midnight Sun Collection, features dried flowers, ferns and other foliage native to Alaska. While she lived in Alaska, Nora picked these items on hikes and dried them for over a year. Her resin-based art is a nod to her time spent in Alaska, the land of the midnight sunshine.

Her show goes up Thursday, June 9, and runs until August 1.

YOUR Y CELEBRATES JUNETEENTH, RECOMMENDS CLOSING FACILITY

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. It is also often observed for celebrating African-American culture. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865.

Your Y's Diversity, Inclusion & Global Engagement (DIG) Committee unanimously voted "yes" to add Juneteenth to the list of holidays that close the Y. The Board will vote on the recommendation on June 15.
HAPPY PRIDE!

Your Y acknowledges the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights, and the continued effort toward equality for ALL living in systems of oppression. Furthermore, we stand in solidarity against all forms of social inequality and oppression.

We invite you to join us for We Wear Rainbow on Friday, June 24 to stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity.
