ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
LUIS VALDERAS
Bishop&Valderas, LLC
Tell us about yourself.
I am a multidisciplinary artist from the border and grew up in a family owned & operated flower/ceramic shop. Collaboration with others is a familiar and long held aspect of my practice—with my peers in the field I’ve produced many installations that elicit audience engagement. I am a Xicanx Futurist–my imagery is based on Meso-American mythology intermingled with science fiction, outer space and my ancestral stories. I take icons and transform them revealing a connection through the past, present and future. I focus on creating work and spaces that reveal a visual experience to the community both as a spectator and participant in order to imagine and participate in an intermingled future.

Teaching Artists, Partners for Rural Impact (PRI)
Partners for Rural Impact (PRI) is now accepting applications from artists in all disciplines to join our roster of teaching artists. PRI teaching artists serve primarily as independent contractors to conduct artist visits and workshops in rural school- and community-based settings, particularly in our Appalachian Kentucky service area. PRI provides free training and professional development opportunities for artists on our roster, as well as opportunities for networking and mentorship with other artists and arts advocates. Additionally, PRI teaching artists are included in a public directory we publish and share with partner schools and community organizations interested in collaborating with artists.
