I Work with Artists:

Professional Development

This quick assessment invites you to reflect on how your organization supports professional development for artists working in community. Are you just getting started, offering occasional opportunities, or deeply embedding equity, access, and cultural competency into ongoing training? Your responses can help clarify where you are now—and where you want to grow in advancing best practices with, by, and for artists.

ARTISTS THRIVE COMMUNITY

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

SHANON KELLEY

East Tennessee Artscapes

Newport, TN

Tell us about yourself.

Our organization brings free arts opportunities to our underserved community in Appalachia. We strategically create programs and projects to meet the needs of our people. For instance, Ballroom Dance in Sweat Pants brings together senior citizens to alleviate social isolation and meet physical fitness needs through the arts. Our most recent program is called From Our Mountains to Yours and it virtually connected middle school classrooms in rural Appalachia and the Peruvian Andes to make international friends and learn about other cultures. We create programs that bring isolated people together to thrive through the arts!

What makes you Thrive?

I thrive when I collaborate with other artists and organizers to fund solutions.
