CUNY Callouts: Meet New Faces

Meet Shaun Rasmussen, the director for external relations and engagement for two of CUNY’s celebrated student success programs! A John Jay College graduate, Shaun leads marketing and citywide outreach for CUNY’s Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) and Accelerate, Complete, Engage (ACE). With extensive experience in the arts, education and career advising for young adults, he joined CUNY because he wanted to make a difference. “As much as I loved working with the young adults who lived in the surrounding public housing community, I wanted to work with an organization that would impact lives across New York City and beyond. My mother, brothers and I graduated from CUNY. CUNY changed our lives, and I can’t think of many organizations that have impacted New York City as significantly,” Shaun said when we caught up with him for a quick chat.

What do you do for fun? “When not at work, I dance with Something Positive, Inc., a Brooklyn-based performing arts company. I have danced and done much more with Something Positive for over 20 years. I’ve had the pleasure of performing throughout the United States, Central America, the Caribbean and various African countries. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with Danny Glover to mount an exhibition that was on view at the Brooklyn Public Library and Medgar Evers College for two years.

When I'm not at CUNY or in rehearsals, I also work with Project Safety Net, a Long Island-based organization working to support community members living with chronic illness.”

What do you love about working at CUNY? “When I tell people I work at CUNY, I emphasize that I work alongside the hardest-working individuals in higher education today. I come to work daily inspired by the incredible team members who do everything possible to ensure the students we serve are supported from entry to graduation.”
