Tell us about yourself.
Lois Trader is a self-taught interpretive artist whose sculptures and mixed-media creations speak to the human experience with raw honesty and emotional depth. Her work draws upon personal stories of resilience, love, loss, and healing, transforming found objects, clay, and mixed materials into thought-provoking forms that invite reflection and contemplation. Each piece is created with intentional symbolism—fragmented faces, layered textures, and bold structures that convey vulnerability, strength, and transformation. Through her art, Lois bridges the gap between personal expression and collective understanding, offering viewers both comfort and challenge in equal measure.

Since the advent of artificial intelligence and its astonishing image-generating capacities, artists the world over have been both disturbed and fascinated by it. Some fear that these new tools could render human creativity obsolete, while others see in them a chance to reexamine what art and imagination itself can be. For “Art Restart” podcast with Kenan Institute for the Arts, this conversation marks the beginning of a deeper exploration of how AI might radically reshape the act of making art and the role of the artist in society.
