Strive to Thrive

I Am an Artist:

Creative Community Relationships

Creative community doesn’t just happen; it’s built through presence, reciprocity, and care. This reflection invites you to consider how connected you feel to other artists, collaborators, and cultural workers in your orbit. Where do your relationships feel quiet or one-sided and where do they feel energizing and mutual? Understanding this helps clarify what support you need and what you can offer to move toward shared growth, inspiration, and opportunity.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

TEMPESTT KIRBY

Tempestt K Art Studio

Las Vegas, NV

Tell us about yourself.

I am a multi-media artist whose work centers on the representation of people of color through themes of bravery, resilience, pain, and humanity layered through an Afrofuturist Lense. My practice seeks to create visual narratives that honor lived experiences I know personally while inviting viewers to reflect on their own; to maybe find what I've always seen, we are more alike than we are different.

I thrive when I...

create art and spaces that evoke conversation and change to the person experiencing it. It is a great joy of mine to have people see themselves or someone they know in the work I create.

Where can we find your work?

SELF-CARE CORNER

New National Study Offers Fresh Insight into the Lives and Livelihoods of US Artists

The Mellon Foundation commissioned NORC at the University of Chicago to design a National Survey of Artists. By capturing the full scope of artists’ work lives - from employment patterns to financial vulnerability - the study provides the field with evidence to inform smarter investments, public policy, and support systems that can strengthen creative labor for the long term.
