OCTOBER 2021 — ISSUE 23
This funding includes $548,000 in competitive civic affairs grants chosen by the foundation’s Community Investment Committee. A $6,000 grant to Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio will provide Everyone Plays activity kits to Summit County children with disabilities. By providing adaptive equipment and structured community-based and interscholastic programs, the nonprofit achieves its mission of making physical activities more attainable for everyone.
Akron Community Foundation recently welcomed 14 new charitable funds to its growing family, bringing its total number of funds to more than 750. These newest funds will help nonprofits serve Summit County residents impacted by the opioid epidemic, support the International Soap Box Derby, provide scholarships through the Akron Urban League, and more.
Join Akron Community Foundation on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. for a virtual presentation celebrating all of our esteemed past Polsky Award honorees. This retrospective event will pay tribute to the legendary leaders and trailblazing philanthropists who have shaped our community over the past half-century. Registration is complimentary but donations are welcome.

With U.S. stocks soaring to more than 30% higher than the pre-pandemic peak, now is the perfect time to re-evaluate your investment portfolio to ensure it is well-balanced and aligned with your long-term goals. Rather than using a conventional portfolio rebalancing strategy of selling stocks and buying bonds, 2021 is an ideal year to transfer out-of-balance and highly appreciated investment holdings in taxable accounts to a donor-advised fund.
