#2018APPAM Daily: Thursday
The new Opening Luncheon today at 12:00 pm provided the perfect opportunity to catch up with colleagues or schedule time to get to know someone new. The luncheon featured a special education panel of three deans from top policy schools.

The Future of Public Policy Education: Over lunch, three top policy school deans discussed the state of public policy education, what issues the field is grappling with, job prospects for graduates, and what the future holds for APPAM member schools.
  • Moderator: Matthew Stagner, Vice President, Director of Human Services, Mathematica Policy Research
  • Michael Barr, Dean, The Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, University of Michigan
  • Doug Elmendorf, Dean, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University
  • Cecilia Rouse, Dean, The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University

Poster Session Award Winners: Evening came and, with it, the announcement of three winners from over 100 posters presented during #2018APPAM's Poster Session Happy Hour. Congratulations to Roberto Mosquera for his Third Place-winning poster The Economic Effects of Facebook, Mia Bird for her Second Place-winning poster California's Proposition 47: How Did This Reduction in Penalties for Lower-Level Drug and Property Offenses Affect Incarceration Levels and Recidivism Rates?, and Sean Darling-Hammond for his First-Prize winning poster Making Intergroup Contact "Work": Reducing Bias through Effective Workplace Diversity Programs. Rachel Brittin of American University was on hand to graciously film interviews with the winners; those interviews will be shared with the APPAM community in the near future.
