Thanks to the generosity of our fundholders and board, the community will get a multimillion-dollar boost this quarter. ACF's board awarded half a million dollars to education programs, while the remaining $4 million in grants was recommended by donor-advised, scholarship and other charitable funds at the community foundation. These grants bring the foundation's lifetime grantmaking total to more than $150 million.

The conversion to College & Career Academies at Akron Public Schools will be a shift not only for high school students, but for staff and faculty as well. Akron Community Foundation's board awarded a $30,000 grant to train the faculty in curriculum integration and collaborative team teaching. Other grants will provide one-on-one mentoring, increase bilingual literacy and more.

Whether you are required to file a federal income tax return this year will depend on how much you earned in 2017, the source of that income, your age and filing status. F or most people, it's straightforward. If your 2017 gross income was below the threshold for your filing status and age, you probably will not have to file.
