CIRM awards $4.96 million to Sanford Burnham Prebys to help the tiniest patients

Evan Y. Snyder, M.D., Ph.D., received funding from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to advance a stem cell therapy that may protect newborns from brain damage due to oxygen and blood flow deprivation. Called perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, the condition can cause cerebral palsy and other permanent neurological disorders.

Lilly collaboration expands to include CRISPR drug discovery

Our collaboration with Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly) to discover and develop immunological therapies has been extended for three years. The agreement advances ongoing projects—including a Phase 1 trial of an immune therapy that arose from the research collaboration—and also includes CRISPR-based target identification studies.

NIH grant aims to boost heart muscle

Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. Now, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a four-year grant totaling nearly half a million dollars to Chris Larson, Ph.D., to develop medicines that could help people repair damaged heart muscle—and potentially reduce the risk of heart attack or other cardiovascular events.

Lung cancer experts speak at inaugural "Cornering Cancer" event

Lung cancer remains the deadliest cancer—killing more people each year than breast, prostate and colorectal cancer combined. To help the public better understand newly available medicines—and the research advances that are on the horizon—the Institute teamed up with the Fleet Science Center to host a panel discussion on Sunday, August 18.
