The St. Joseph Community Health Foundation is investing another $473,963 in local organizations dedicated to supporting low-income and vulnerable residents in Allen County.

“With recent cutbacks in governmental grants and subsidies, many local families are facing tough decisions on how to cover essentials like rent, food, and childcare. It is especially difficult for immigrant families,” according to Meg Distler, St. Joe Foundation Executive Director.

The St. Joe Foundation’s vision is that the most vulnerable and low-income among us in Allen County will be treated with compassion and have dignified access to resources that nourish and enable a healthy, hope-filled life. This annual honor, nominated by the Foundation’s Board and managed by PNC Financial Services through the Raymond Rosenberger Trust, recognizes individuals for their diligent and faithful service with exempt charitable organizations to alleviate human suffering, enhance quality of life for those afflicted by illness or injury, or promote wellness through prevention. Picture a group of passionate students stepping up to tackle society’s toughest challenges with creativity and compassion—meet the Public Health Fellows at the University of Saint Francis. Now in its second year, this program empowers these young leaders to address critical social issues through innovative solutions and hands-on service projects. By partnering with local organizations, these "fellows" gain practical experience while making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve. This initiative fosters personal growth and instills a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to community well-being.

In the fall of 2024, the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation provided a grant to the University of Saint Francis to support this fellowship experience for three students. We are proud to highlight these three inspiring fellows who are driving change through the program:

 Domestic Violence Awareness and Resources

The upcoming Prenatal & Infant Care Luncheon will feature insightful presentations from local speakers, including representatives from the Center for Nonviolence, Jennifer’s Harbor, and the YWCA Northeast Indiana. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge about the resources available to support pregnant women and families and an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence with cultural considerations, the legal framework surrounding domestic violence, and its impact on children. Join us in learning important information to improve access and awareness of community resources to better support our families.
