MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

March 11, 2024

We are midway through the Top 16 round of our Coolest Thing Made in Delaware competition, and I am happy to report that engagement, interest, and voting is robust! Don't forget to participate and cast your vote here.

There are more manufacturers in Delaware than most people know, and these businesses are making some very cool products. Some of these manufactured goods are familiar to consumers, while others are equally significant but part of a manufactured product you may have never heard of. The goal of the competition is to draw attention to the things we make here and encourage people to consider manufacturing as a career option. Many long-term or multi-generational Delawareans think manufacturing left the state when the automakers relocated, but today’s manufacturing sector is alive, well, and thriving.

As the world reorganizes and relocates manufacturing from East Asia, the opportunity to reshore businesses here is front and center. To do this, we’ll need land use and environmental policies that balance clean air and water regulation with the economics necessary to succeed. And we’ll need a diverse workforce that includes technology skills, teamwork and problem-solving capabilities that are key to today’s manufacturing jobs. Want to lift low-income earners up? Want to rebuild and invest in solid, middle-class jobs? Here is your opportunity.

News You Can Use

This is a light but important week for economic news and data. We kick things off on Tuesday morning with the consumer price index results for February, and the NFIB optimism index. Thursday morning brings us February retail sales, and January inventory data. We wrap up on Friday with the import price index for February, and an early look at consumer sentiment for the first part of March.

Oracle leads the week of earnings calls on Monday, and is joined by Legend Biotech, Vail Resorts, and others. Archer-Daniels-Midland and Kohl’s are scheduled for Tuesday, while Dollar Tree, Petco, and Lennar are ready to go on Wednesday. Adobe, Dollar General, Blink Charging, Ulta Beauty, Jabil, and others round out the week.
