This sudden sweltering temperatures and spring cloudbursts have not gotten in the way of the diligent 5PF editorial staff - we promise to deliver, no matter what the weather! (PS - you'll easily be able to spot us in public - we're the ones without at tan - there are no windows in the 5PF underground editorial bunker.)

Last issue's Random Debate produced the widest spread of results of any question we've asked so far. When invited to choose between sports drinks and soft drinks, a whopping 85% chose soft drinks, with the remaining 15% going to elite drinkers of sports drinks. After the results were in, we realized that we didn't really include an entire other class of beverages, which are apparently called "energy drinks," things Monster, Red Bull, and Prime. But what are they, really?

THIS WEEK'S RANDOM DEBATE:

What kinds of drinks are things like Red Bull, Monster, Prime, etc?
Useful energy drinks for all who need a little boost.
A delicious reward at the end of a hard workout.
A clever ploy by companies to prove that people don't actually care how things taste.

The 5 Petals for Vol. 1 Issue 22 of 5PF:

WE'VE EXTENDED THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR KAIROS, our annual summer faith-sharing event for rising 9th-12th graders, TO MAY 31, 2024.

Kairos will be held at Roanoke College on June 23-28.

To register, start at the Kairos information page on the Synod Website and then choose either participant or adult registration.

Announcements & Reminders

--> We will need at least a dozen adults to provide Small Group Leadership at this year's Kairos. Adults who will be group leaders at Youth Events must complete the Information Sheet and Background Check permission form each year. Here are links to those forms and additional information:

-Opportunities for Small Group Leaders in 2023-2024

-2023-2024 Small Group Leader Information Sheet

-Permission to Conduct a Background Check

-What it means to be a (Young) Adult at a Synod Youth Event

--> We have, unfortunately, had to cancel our annual LAUNCH event, originally scheduled for July 7-11. We will schedule the same event for July of 2025, so youth who will be seniors in High School this coming year should watch for those dates!

--> Do you have updates on where your graduating High Schoolers are headed in the fall? Please let our campus ministry leaders know using this form. Even if our new graduate is headed to the workforce or military or gap year or something else other than college, having this information will help us keep track of the youth who have been formed by our congregations!

Lutheran youth who are considering going on to higher education after high school are invited (along with their parents!) to ROANOKE COLLEGE LUTHERAN VISIT DAY. This event will be held on Saturday, August 31 on the college campus in Salem, VA, from 10:00-1:30. Our time together will include greetings from College admissions leaders and Synod Youth Director Dave Delaney, plus a tour of the campus (even if you think you know your way around!) and brunch in our *fabulous* commons! Put this on your calendar and watch for a pre-registration link on our website, social media, and here in 5PF!
