$50,000 GIFT SEEDS HORTICULTURAL CENTER
It is a privilege to formally announce our most recent gift of $50,000 from the Marge Sullivan Fund especially in a month dedicated to preservation. This donation has already proven a catalyst for matching donations of another $50,000 all of which will be put towards a future Horticultural Study Center at the Jay Heritage Center.

JHC is enormously grateful for this leadership gift and thrilled at the prospect of launching a four-season learning space where garden volunteers, educators and students can study native species, botany, landscape design and much more.

The late Margaret “Marge” D. Sullivan was no stranger to the fields of garden restoration and preservation. Marge had a profound understanding of the challenges for public gardening and was a firm believer that horticulture should be accessible to everyone. She served as chair of the New York Committee of the Garden Club of America.
HOW DOES PRESERVATION MAKE OUR LIVES BETTER?
From Artifact to Arbor
Hundred+ year old arbor span discovered in debris pile under leaves in 2010.
Arbor fragment matched with archival photos. Believed to have been designed by American landscape architect Mary Rutherfurd Jay.
Span measured and reproduced to scale in reclaimed spruce wood at JHC by Bruce MacDonald of Ashwood Restoration.
Arbor section recreated and installed as part of "Mary Rutherfurd Jay - Garden Architect" public exhibit in 2015 alongside historic plans and photos
Landscape Architects Nelson Byrd Woltz reimagine arbor as center of native plant garden room. Construction completed during pandemic.
Entire arbor recreated thanks to public-private partnership with NY State Parks and Westchester County - Historic Preservation Award 2022
Budding horticulturalists under the arbor in 2022. Funding donated by Michael Kovner and Jean Doyen de Montaillou

STEPHEN KELLOGG IN CONCERT ON THE LAWN!
Sunday, May 21 at 4pm
SOLD OUT! We're starting a waitlist - please email Meredith Slater at mslater.jhc@gmail.com to add your name.

Jams at Jay are in full swing this May with singer-songwriter, Stephen Kellogg. Spread a blanket or prop up a folding chair on our front lawn in front of the Jay Mansion and enjoy this outdoor concert!

According to Mark Deming, “Growing up, his musical interests were divided between his father’s record collection, devoted to ’70s singer/songwriters like Jim Croce and his sister’s rock & roll discs, dominated by hair metal acts such as Bon Jovi….Kellogg’s music represents a meeting point between these two styles, with songs that delve deep into the personal but make room for love and celebration, while the music, which is intelligent and intimate, is also full of rock & roll passion and electricity.”

He’ll be joined by special guest Devon Nikoles.

Food trucks will provide tasty bites and beverages or bring your own picnic. Seating limited. The concert is FREE but registration is required.
