WE CAN MAKE $75,000 IN 48 HOURS AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Happy New Year Glenora!

We hope you and your family, friends, neighbours and loved ones had an wonderful holiday season and we are excited to see what 2025 will hold for us.

One thing it's bringing us is the opportunity to raise much needed funds for the Community League. In fact, we can make around $75,000 in just 48 hours! If it seems to good to be true, it's because it comes with some strings. This opportunity comes in the form of a casino fundraiser we applied for and we need help covering the shifts!

These casinos are very easy to work (usually even quite boring) and all training is provided on site. We only get this opportunity once every 2 years so it is vital we make the most of it!

We have 14 additional shifts we need covered in our upcoming Casino fundraiser at the Starlite Casino on February 24th & 25th. If you are able to volunteer your time (and maybe even sign up for more than one shift), please sign up using the links below:

To hear the updates in the community and learn more about opportunities for involvement, join us tomorrow on January 8th at 7pm for our board meeting. These happen every 2nd Wednesday of the month from September to June and you can request the dates of future meetings by responding to this email.

If there is anything else you think should be included in our newsletters, please let us know at communications@glenoracl.com

MEMBERSHIP PRICE INCREASE

In October we let the membership know that due to ongoing financial challenges, we were exploring options to aid in the ongoing maintenance costs of the community league.

After surveying the league, the board has agreed that starting in January 2025, we will be increasing the annual Glenora Community League memberships as follows:

  • Family Membership $80
  • Individual Membership $30
  • Senior Membership $30
  • Single-Parent Family $30

This will now be pushed to February 1st to give everyone who would like to purchase their membership at the old pricing one last chance to do so.

Our memberships run September-August so if you plan on participating in soccer this Spring, or use the courts this Summer, Consider buying your membership now at the lower rates.

If you have any questions or comments about this change, please forward your questions to Laura at communications@glenoracl.com.

If you love our Carnivals, please consider joining the Events Committee! At the moment we have 1 person planning, organizing and hosting this event (with the help of a small group of volunteers) and we need more hands on deck.

If you have any questions about the volunteering for this event or joining the Events Committee please email Riley at social@glenoracl.com

OPEN BOARD POSITIONS

We have open positions on the Glenora Community League Board that urgently need filling. Our community league is only made up of volunteers, without which we would not be able to run or implement our programs, resources, grounds or building.

Please consider volunteering and getting involved so we can continue to provide more services to our community.

COMMUNITY LEAGUE BUILDING REDEVELOPMENT

Over the last 12 months the Glenora Community League redevelopment committee has shifted their focus from the outdoor space to our community league building.

In the last 12 months we obtained a planning grant from the City of Edmonton and have applied those funds to engaging the services of Andrea Hestvik to help us come up with a concept for redevelopment. Andrea is an architect as well as the Facilities Director at Crestwood community league.

Based on principles gathered from the community, survey and the input gathered we have build a 5-phase plan overview for the building.

ONLINE MEMBERSHIP PORTAL

We have a new online membership portal, which will help us communicate, manage and coordinate your annual GCL membership.

Using this tool, you will no longer have to go searching your email for your membership number, as you will be able to log into your account and access your membership details anytime.

It will also allow us to communicate directly with active members only with information like court codes, and allow you to set up membership renewal automatically or manually through the portal.

An email was sent in the Spring with instructions for claiming your current membership and setting up your account. As the new membership year has already started since September, everyone will need to sign up for a new membership. You can register with auto-renew on this platform so your membership always stays current, or you can sign in to your account and renew manually.

If you do not have a current membership, you can buy one here and set up your membership account.

If you have any questions about this new tool or have questions or concerns about your membership, please email Laura at communications@glenoracl.com

WE NEED SKATE ROOM VOLUNTEERS!

We need some help from our Glenora Community members to help manage the skate room and do some snow removal when required. If we don’t get volunteers, we won’t be opening the skate room for skaters to change and warm up.

If you are able to help in the skate room or need skate tags for the upcoming season, please contact Peter at sports@glenoracl.com

SKIP THE DEPOT

Save your bottles for Glenora Community League! We have an account with Skip The Depot so you can turn your cans into cash for the league! Register here for an account to have them pick up your bottles & cans & have the funds donated straight to Glenora initiatives. Every little bit counts!
