Amid growing concerns from our retail sector members about tariffs, some good news emerged recently for grocery retailers. E-grocery sales appear to be robust and steadily growing.
According to a story published by Mass Market Retailers on May 19, e-grocery sales surged to $9.8 billion in April, continuing an upward trend. This growth accounted for three-quarters of total sales growth last year. Notably, stores with strong membership and loyalty programs are performing the best.
“The findings suggest that regional grocers must rethink their e-grocery strategies. Experts recommend blending fast, free pickup options with compelling subscriptions, personalized rewards, and targeted outreach to inactive customers to drive loyalty and protect margins," the article states.
I’ve personally never tried purchasing groceries this way, but with a trend that strong, I fully intend to give it a try!
