We are proud and excited to announce Cynthia King as our new Executive Director, effective August 4!
She will succeed Neville Hormuz, who has been serving as Interim Executive Director since January and continues to serve on HSSC’s board of directors.
Over the past 20 years, Cynthia has developed an expertise in navigating the intersection of programs, data, collaboration, and strategy through work in county and nonprofit agencies across the Bay Area. After completing her Master’s in Social Work and Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, she spent 10 years as an analyst for Alameda and Sonoma Counties. She then moved to the nonprofit space where she developed and implemented innovative and sustainable programs in the areas of Nutrition Education, Food Access, Financial Stability, and Leadership Development.
Since 2015, Cynthia has worked in Disaster Response, Recovery and Preparedness across five counties and 20 disasters. She has been the CEO at Sonoma CAN since 2023 and prior to that spent two-and-a-half years at Aliados, a regional association of clinics working on Quality Improvement, Community Health, and managing a Health Center Controlled Network with Community Health Centers in six counties. She has been a practitioner coach with Radical Transformational Leadership for Social Impact since 2017.
Board President Lisa Barnes says:
"We are excited and proud to welcome Cynthia to our team, and to take our ability to support the animals and people of our community to new heights. Cynthia has been a pillar of the non-profit community in Sonoma County for more than a decade. Her compassionate leadership, strategic vision, and community-led solutions - combined with a lifelong passion for animals - make her the ideal choice to lead HSSC into the future.”
