New learning opportunities 
this Holocaust Education Month


As part of Holocaust Education Month, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa is partnering with local school boards, synagogues, and the British High Commission to bring the travelling exhibit A Thousand Kisses: Stories from the Kindertransport to four Jewish institutions across the city. The exhibit offers students age-appropriate insights into the Shoah while fostering meaningful connections with contemporary Jewish life and confronting rising antisemitism.

CHES brings in next-generation voices for Holocaust Education Month


The Centre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship (CHES) will launch Holocaust Education Month 2025 on November 10 with a keynote by renowned scholar Michael Berenbaum, marking its 10th anniversary and the commemoration of Kristallnacht. Berenbaum will address the future of Holocaust memory amid rising antisemitism. CHES will also host educator workshops and programs for descendants, strengthening Holocaust education for the next generation.

J-Fellows builds leadership and connection for Ottawa’s young adults 


The Jewish Federation of Ottawa’s 2026 J-Fellows program is gearing up to empower the next generation of Jewish leaders. Led by Young Adult & Newcomer Engagement Associate Oren Baray with co-chairs and alumni Thierry LaFontaine-Chicha and Elisabeth Levin, this year’s cohort will focus on mentorship, community impact, and connection. Applications are now open for young adults seeking leadership growth, meaningful friendships, and deeper engagement in Jewish Ottawa.

Researchers study impact of October 7 on Jewish Canadians


A research team from Concordia University of Edmonton is conducting a nationwide study on how the October 7 Hamas attacks have affected Jewish Canadians. Led by Dr. Thea Comeau, the project explores changes in security, well-being, and values, and invites Jewish Canadians to share their experiences through an anonymous online survey to help capture both trauma and resilience across the community.

Jewish Family Services launches survey to shape future programming


Jewish Family Services of Ottawa, together with the Israeli Newcomers Focus Group, has launched a new survey to better understand the needs of Israelis who arrived in Canada within the past two years. The initiative aims to strengthen supports around employment, language, mental health, and community connection, ensuring newcomers feel welcomed and equipped to thrive in Ottawa’s Jewish community and beyond.
