Learning New Disciplines to Deepen

Our Spiritual Relationship with God - with Rev. Alick Kennedy

Beginning on Wednesday, October 22 and continuing for 5 weeks, we’ll have discussions and practice spiritual disciplines such as:

·  hunger and thirst for the Spirit

·  the nature and practice of spiritual reading

·  approaches to prayer

·  our common worship

· reclaiming Sabbath time; the sacred art of ceasing

We will meet each Wednesday, 2-3:30. The final class date will be Nov. 19. The book we'll be studying is Soul Feast by Marjorie J. Thompson. It costs $13.50. I will order the book for you.

If afternoon sessions are not good for you, please speak with me and I'll attempt to work out a schedule that meets your needs. We will be trying some new experiences time with God in order to deepen our spiritual strength and our bond with the Holy Spirit.

Contact me at 412-780-5723 if you're interested in participating.

Thank you - Rev. Alick Kennedy

Next SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26th, THE REVEREND SUSAN MEYER will join us as part of our 100th Anniversary Guest Preacher Series.

She was Assistant Pastor at Northmont in 1982 and then Associate Pastor in 1984. Upon leaving Northmont in 1997, she was director of the Alzheimer’s unit at a local nursing home. In 2001, she moved to Holy Family Institute’s In-Home Program and later transitioned to the Family Focused program, which provides mental-health care within the home. She retired from Holy Family in September 2023.

We hope you’ll be able to join us in welcoming her.

2026 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN

The theme of this year’s campaign is preparing to thrive in the next 100 years as a congregation – we can’t just hope for the things that we want, but we must pray for the wisdom to make them happen.

In 1 Kings 3:1–15 (Solomon asks for wisdom) “So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “... I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.”

Everyone should have received a letter about the campaign, along with a commitment-pledge card. If you did not, please contact the church office. We will present our commitment-pledge cards on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Please bring your completed pledge card with you to worship by October 26 or mail it to the church office. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity and care for one another.

THE DINING OUT GROUP will enjoy the Red Orchid Thai Restaurant at 5439 Babcock Blvd on Oct. 20 at 6:30. Contact Sarah Jane Beorn at 412-952-0662, by Oct. 19, to be included in the reservation. All are welcome.
