Donald S. Bernstein (Davis, Polk & Wardwell) received the International Insolvency Institute's 2018 Founder's Award during a ceremony at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York on September 24, 2018. The award is bestowed on a member who, through his efforts over the years, has made a substantial contribution to further the goals, mission, and work of the III. Don has been recognized through the course of his distinguished career as having shown profound commitment to philanthropy as well as to the highest ideals of the law.
Steven N. Cousins (Armstrong Teasdale)  was recently selected to join the advisory board of the prestigious Hutchins Center for African & African American Research at Harvard University.  The Hutchins Center focuses on the history and culture of people of African descent all over the world. The center seeks to drive engagement with and awareness of this field of study, and often sponsors visiting fellows, art exhibitions, publications, research projects, archives, readings, conferences and new media initiatives that excite interest in African and African-American research.
Prof. Lois Lupica (University of Maine School of Law) has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award to study in Australia in 2019. Professor Lupica will use her Fulbright to critically examine the Australian legal services' structure, priorities, and methods of legal service delivery for underserved populations. She will study the effectiveness of recently implemented programmatic innovations, including technology-based innovations designed to address the access to civil justice crisis. She also will identify best practices for advancing the cause of access to justice in order to develop the tools to replicate and scale these practices in the U.S. Professor Lupica will be hosted by the University of Melbourne Law School during her semester-long stay.
Jane Marshall, following her retirement from practice at McCann FitzGerald, has been appointed as an independent non-executive director of State Street Fund Services (Ireland) Limited and as chairperson of The Investment Compensation Company DAC, a company set up under statute to provide compensation to eligible clients of failed investment firms.
Hon. Jim D. Pappas (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Idaho) received the President's Medallion Award at Idaho State University's Alumni Recognition Reception & Dinner on September 28, 2018. Established in 2001 in recognition of the University's Centennial celebration, this award honors friends and alumni whose outstanding accomplishments and exemplary service bring distinction to the University and advance higher education.
Hon. James M. Peck (Ret.) (Morrison & Foerster) received the International Insolvency Institute's 2018 Outstanding Contributions Award during a ceremony at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York on September 24, 2018. The award honors a person who reflects prominent, distinguished, and exceptional service to the field of insolvency and the insolvency community.
Larry Prince (Holland & Hart) was selected to receive the Exemplary Service Award by the Idaho Chapter of the Federal Bar Association for his outstanding service to the Chapter. The award will be presented at the U.S. District Court Bench-Bar Conference on Oct. 26, 2018 in Boise. The award was established in 2008 to recognize federal practitioners, court staff, and non-attorneys who have consistently demonstrated professionalism, collegiality, service, mentoring, and providing quality legal representation consistently throughout their careers.
Robin Russell (Andrews Kurth LLP) presented  The UCC for Lenders on BankWebinars.comThis program is a comprehensive Uniform Commercial Code secured lending program for persons new to banking and is also recommended as a refresher. Perfecting a valid, enforceable security interest on various types of commercial and consumer collateral is the focus, including documentation, filings and analysis of lien positions. Hon. Maureen A. Tighe (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California) was featured as the June 2018  Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (WLALA) Changemaker of the Month. She exemplifies this year's WLALA theme of "Be The Change." Read the full article here...
