August 2019

- A Message from Marjorie Vaneskahian Burr, ACO CEO-

As we wrap up ACO's summertime campaign, GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE, I want to remind you that your donations are still needed, now and throughout the year. What you give today has a lasting impact on Collin County families...and here's why...

Last week ACO held it's annual Back To School Bash for Allen ISD students in need, and students throughout Collin County that needed help preparing for the new school year. Almost 500 Allen area children received new supplies and backpacks, and another 300 in the Branch/Princeton area.

During Distribution Day a mom came up to me with her head down and said,  "I am embarrassed that we (she and her 3 young kids) had to come today and need help, but I am so grateful and thankful that you are here."

I saw the tears in her eyes and it tugged at my heart. I smiled and said,  "Don't be embarrassed! Just be thankful that we can do this and be grateful you live in a giving community. The only embarrassment is to those communities who don't help each other!"

Your community is grateful for YOU and what you give! We had 2 shortages this month to meet the needs of our summer kids food program and our school supplies drive. We asked for help with Spaghettios and Backpacks, and this community delivered! You Give! And, ACO is thankful!

An important event is coming next month and I hope you will be there, to celebrate our community with outgoing Mayor Steve Terrell and a few hundred of our closest friends and ACO supporters. Read more about it in this enews and online at www.acocares.org. Tickets are going fast- grab yours today!
