AmeriCorpsWeek 2018
March 11 - 17, 2018

AmeriCorps Week is a celebration of all things AmeriCorps - the people and programs who have committed to "Get Things Done" in thousands of locations across the country since the program's inception in 1994. As part of this year's festivities, we ask that you share the impact of AmeriCorps on your life and invite you to join us in a nationwide "Thank You" to currently serving members, alumni, and programs.

Got Two Minutes?
This short video may answer some of your most pressing AmeriCorps questions. (click the link below to watch a short video of What is AmeriCorps?).

New AmeriCorps National Member

AmeriCorps State and National: Supports a broad range of local service programs that engage thousands of Americans in intensive service to meet critical community needs.
A National Member works for about 10½ months directly with people.  When working at Habitat for Humanity, National Members can serve as either a Family Services Coordinator, Community Outreach Coordinator, Construction Crew Leader, or as a Volunteer Coordinator, working directly with families, children, communities, etc. to meet community needs.

Amanda Wolfe, AmeriCorps National, Family Services Coordination, will be helping families attain affordable homes. She'll conduct applicant orientations and assist families in completing housing applications.  She'll work with the Family Selection Committee to select partner families. Amanda will also assist in preparing financial eligibility calculations and summaries to the Committee for each applicant, and prepare monthly summaries of a family's progress.  She'll assist in collecting information to prepare for closings as well as build alongside partner families as they complete their sweat equity requirements. AmeriCorps members, like Amanda, Get Things Done

Interested in Volunteering?
Spring is almost here! What better way to celebrate the season than by volunteering. The Aberdeen ReStore is looking for service minded individuals to assist in our customer service and receiving departments. Volunteers would assist with variety of tasks ranging from helping customers, assisting donors in receiving, and organizing the sales floor. Volunteers are needed Tuesdays 9am to 4pm, Wednesday-Friday 10am to 6pm, and Saturdays 9am to 4pm. Individuals and groups are welcome. Volunteers must be 16 years old to volunteer. 14-15 years old can volunteer with a parent or guardian. This opportunity is great for retirees looking for an extra hobby, students who need service hours or individuals who just want to give back to their community.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact John at jlanigan@habitatsusq.org or call 443-567-7698 Ext 14.

Spotlight: Volunteer of the Month
The Volunteer of the Month for March is Bill!  Bill has been volunteering at the Aberdeen ReStore since August 2016.  Over the last year, Bill has accumulated almost 200 hours of service.  Bill is also our rock on Tuesdays and is one of our leaders in receiving.  He assists donors and customers with their large items.  When the ReStore is in a tough spot, we can count on Bill for help!  When Bill is not lifting and moving furniture, he is taking pictures at Habitat events like our Crazy Build.  Bill's upbeat and positive personality is infectious.  He makes even the less exciting work fun.  Thank you, Bill, for your service!

NEW CHANGES
We implemented changes at the ReStore!  You can read more about them here:

Insider Notes
...get the scoop on how our sales work plus more!
Monthly Color Tag Sales
We're running color tag sales every month, where items will be priced according to condition, uniqueness, quantity and from where it was received. Our items range from high-end corporate donors to residential, and everything is priced from $-$$$ and in-between.

At the beginning of each month items will be marked down with the colored tags, depending on how long they've been at the ReStore. Pictured here (at right) are the tags you'll see in the store, and the markdowns they represent. Happy shopping!

Three-Day Holds
The vast majority of our furniture is extremely heavy, and due to insurance requirements, we unfortunately cannot load your vehicle. We'll be happy to bring your item(s) to the loading dock for you to load yourself.  Please note that we have a strict three-day hold. If you do not pick your item(s) up by the third day, they will be returned to the floor to be resold, and ONLY store credit minus the 20% restocking fee will be issued for the amount of the item.  Sorry, NO REFUNDS.

Perka Points
We offer a frequent purchase program called Perka. Download the app, and for every dollar you spend you earn 1 point. 100 points= $10 off (certain discounts cannot be combined to create a greater reward). Ask in the store for details.
