PROGRAMMING
Artists, Advocates at Annapolis, Oh My!Artists

In partnership with the Maryland Out of School Time Network, Art with a Heart staff members spent President's Day at the House of Delegates in Annapolis with students from statewide Boys and Girls Clubs. The students joined together to advocate for out of school time mentoring programs. Art with a Heart had each student create a magnet illustrating their after-school heroes and mentors. The students then presented the magnets to legislators during one-on-one meetings.

Love and Peace are the Hub of these Flowers Hubcaps

Art with a Heart had a great time working with 5th grade students at North Chevy Chase Elementary on their "Love and Peace" themed legacy project. After students created sketches, they were tasked with turning their ideas into radial designs on primed hubcaps. Students used mural paint to carry out their vision on these recycled canvases that will be displayed in an outdoor garden space at the school.  Stay tuned for pictures of the completed installation.

Tar Beach Story Comes Alive with Quilt CollageKidzStuff

These 3- and 4-year-old Pre-Kindergarten students from KidzStuff Childcare Center enjoyed a field trip to Art with a Heart. As the students arrived, one said, "we never get out!" We were thrilled to host their class in our new space. Art with a Heart's teacher read "Tar Beach" to the students and then taught them basic collage techniques to recreate the setting from Faith Ringgold's vibrant African-American folk tale.  Each student's individual quilt square was then assembled with the others to create a colorful cityscape canvas.

Snapchat Self Portraits: Can You See Me Now?SelfPortrait

An effort in meeting students where they are! This unconventional take on self portraits allowed middle school students in Art with a Heart classes at Tench Tilghman Elementary/Middle School to draw themselves with popular snapchat filters. Students enjoyed adding humor to their art work.
