Patience Paid Off

We're leaping for joy! After 578 days at our shelter, our sweetheart, Agee, was adopted on Leap Day last month! Agee arrived at our shelter with life-threatening injuries and our team jumped in to give her the medical care she needed. After a very long recovery process, Agee settled in at our shelter, meeting potential adopters, but none of them were the right fit. That is, until a sweet woman came to visit Agee. While she was playing with her, she told our shelter manager all about Agee's new room at home - complete with a bay window for bird and squirrel watching. Congratulations, Agee, we will miss you!

Our goal is to build a safe, efficient shelter that provides animals with room to exercise, temperature and noise control and ventilation, natural light, and welcoming areas for the public and potential adopters. Our staff, volunteers, the community, and most importantly the animals will all benefit from having a healthier, safer, and low stress environment. Maintenance costs will decrease, allowing HBPets to spend more money where it will have the most impact – helping animals! Here's a quick video explaining why a new shelter is vital. We’re thrilled to announce that great progress continues as we prepare for construction of our new shelter. The storage barn has been demolished, our fencing has been modified, and septic bids have been submitted. Additionally, a new power pole, fire hydrant, and waterline have been installed!

Free Vaccine Clinic on April 20th!

We're excited to be partnering again with the Newberg Rotary and the incredible students of the Interact Club at Newberg High School again this year to offer a free vaccine clinic, in honor of Denise Bacon, a beloved community member and longtime Newberg City Councilor. We're all excited to be helping the pets of our community (and their humans!) once again. HBPets is donating the medical services of our Shelter Veterinarian and Surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Choate and Dr. Amy Baden. Denise began this project with the students several years ago, and because of the impact it had on many lives, it will continue this year. Join us on April 20th from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the Chehalem Armory & Youth Center at 620 N Morton St, Newberg, OR 97132. HBPets is using a grant awarded by Petco to purchase vaccines.
