Celebrating the 9th Anniversary of Dr. Willis L. Barnett
|
|
Dr. Barnett has served as the minister of music at St. Philip’s since July 2013.
An accomplished violinist and composer, Dr. Barnett received his Bachelor of Science in music education from Norfolk State University in 1973. He went on to obtain a Master of Science in music composition from Norfolk State University in 1978 and his Doctor of Ministry from Virginia Union University in 1997. He has also studied at Catholic University of America and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Most recently, he served at Virginia Union University as an associate professor of music and coordinator of choral activities.
The people of St. Philip’s are grateful for his service to them and God. He routinely uses his talent, experience and musical connections to enhance our worship. We are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Barnett serving with us and look forward to seeing how God will continue to use him in enriching our musical ministry.

In 2021, we would have celebrated our 160th church anniversary, but the pandemic had other plans. We plan to celebrate our 161st Church Jubilee this fall and are seeking volunteers to assist in the planning. Contact Joy Lee if interested.
