This Sunday, we are excited to receive
three new members to Northmont:
Mitch Demchak, Missy Demchak, and Krissy Martincsek
They all come from Presbyterian backgrounds and bring with them their own unique stories. We are extremely blessed to have their presence and talents here at Northmont. If you see them at church, please be sure to extend a warm welcome!

This past Sunday we were blessed to welcome The Reverend David Antonson back to Pittsburgh with his wife Judy. David returned to the pulpit to share a message and reminisce about his years as Pastor at Northmont.
In addition, we were happy to have in attendance Reverend Susan Meyer and James and Carol Schnable. Carol is the granddaughter of the Reverend Roderick Smith, who was the first full time Pastor of our church when it was founded in 1925.

Good Shepherd Sunday boasts a wealth of possible choral repertoire. References to sheep, lambs, and shepherds occur everywhere. There are countless settings of the 23rd Psalm. Everyone has their favorite. This year, after two different choristers suggested Howard Goodall’s setting of Ps 23, the theme song for the BBC TV series, “The Vicar of Dibley,” I took it as a sign that we had to sing it. We hope you enjoy it.
At the offertory, the choir will sing one of my favorite pieces for the day: Calvin’s Hampton’s simple, tuneful, and fresh-sounding setting of the old hymn text, “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us.” Hampton was born in 1938 in my hometown of Kittanning, PA. He was a leading American organist and sacred music composer, whose life was cut tragically short by AIDS in 1984. I find that Hampton’s tune brings focus and meaning to the words, which become trite when sung to the rather common-sounding tune to which they are usually wed. What do you think?
Easter lasts for 50 days until Pentecost (see the allusion to “five” in the name?). The season occupies roughly one-seventh of the year, so the saying is, “As Sunday is to the week, Easter is to the year.” Every Sunday is a little Easter and the Easter season is a prolonged celebration of the joy of the resurrection. Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Lord is risen, indeed! Alleluia!
| North Hills Food Bank Emergency | |
We have learned that the Food Bank lost power during the recent major outage and, as a result, lost all their freezer and refrigerator contents to spoilage.
We'll want to keep the Food Bank in our prayers as they recover from this significant loss.
Your Mission Committee will be making a donation to the Food Bank on behalf of Northmont and, as well, we encourage anyone so inclined to make individual contributions to help them meet this current challenge. Make any checks to Northmont UP Church and mark donations for the "Food Bank".
Thank you! Your Mission Committee
| During the month of May, Northmont’s Mission Committee is accepting donations for Hearth - North Hills Affordable Housing, in honor of Mother’s Day. Hearth provides housing, food, clothing, support services, and child care to homeless women and their families. Northmont member, the late Jean Stultz, helped initiate Hearth in 1995. Please consider making a donation in honor of the special mothers and other important women in your life. | Northmont's Mission Committee is passing along this invitation to anyone who might be interested in joining this year's team of Pittsburgh Presbyterians visiting Malawi in October. | |
The International Partnership is now selecting pilgrims for the next pilgrimage, scheduled for October 16-27, 2025. If you are interested in joining this year's pilgrimage, please confirm with the committee from your congregation most involved with the partnership that they support you as a representative for this trip, and complete this application (https://forms.gle/RefYyARi9jasnwq28).
