Despite the statistics, black women in the venture capital investing community are starting to be a more frequent occurrence. Additionally, they are working tenaciously to ensure that black and Latino founders get funding, but not for reasons that you may suspect.
At a time when the national conversation has reached new levels of divisiveness, corporate America's commitment to diverse and inclusive workforces has never mattered more, said Reshma Saujani, founder and CEO of Girls Who Code.
Saint John said her stature (she was about the same height at 13 as she is now) and skin color effectively deflated any attempt to fit in among her peers. This ultimately turned out to be a blessing, however.
Being able to answer this question with ease is something that many take for granted. While there are usually no malicious intentions associated with the question, it does carry some sort of weight (whether it's negative or positive) with people of color.
Though diversity in casting has been strong on television recently, progress in feature films has been slower, Viola Davis and Tom Hanks discussed in a one-on-one interview for Variety's Actors on Actors.
The new movie has the most diverse cast of any Star Wars film to date, also starring Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Diego Luna, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster, to name just a few. Ahmed spoke about this diversity in a recent interview.
