6 Ways to Keep Pets Safe and Cool This Summer
Romeo's Photo by Dean Payne
Summer is here and temperatures are rising. Just like people, pets are vulnerable to illnesses and injuries related to hot weather, including sunburn, heat stroke, and paw pad burns.
Follow these tips to keep your pet safe and cool while you share fun in the sun!
- Stay Hydrated
Make sure your pet has plenty of
water at home and on outings. Pets
can
become dehydrated quickly
in the heat. Provide access to
fresh water at all times.
2. Beat the Heat
Avoid excessive exposure during the strongest hours of sunlight, usually between 10 am and 2 pm. Take walks during the cooler hours of the day.
3. Make a Splash
Many dogs enjoy a swim, whether it's splashing in the ocean, paddling in a pool, or a run through a sprinkler. All of these activities can help bring body temperatures down.
4. Protect paws
Hot cement and sand can burn pet's paws.
Pawz Dog Boots help protect
paws. Made of natural rubber, Pawz are 100% biodegradable and designed to go on easily and fit securely without zippers or straps. yet durable, Pawz offers serious paw protection. Also, by Pawz, Maxwax
is 100% natural paw
wax made with
bees wax and lanolin
to moisturize dry/cracked paws.

5. Made in the Shade
Scout for areas out of direct sunlight. If your dog, is the fashionable type, don a stylish hat and coordinating sunnies like these designed by Susan Howard of
Hayley's Hats.
6. Feel the Breeze
Beautiful handcrafted palm leaf hand
fans add the perfect tropical detail to your summer soiree. Known as Buri fans, these natural
fans are perfect for keeping cool.
