Hey friends,
April is Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month—and while we’ve come a long way in building awareness, acceptance is where the real magic happens. This month is about more than just lighting it up blue. It’s about truly seeing our kids. Their strengths, their struggles, their uniqueness. It’s about making space for them in every room, classroom, and community.
As a special needs parent, coach, and proud autism mom, I know firsthand how overwhelming the world can feel when your child experiences it differently. But I also know the beauty that comes from honoring and embracing those differences.
This month, let’s lean into connection, understanding, and inclusion. Whether you're raising a child with autism, supporting a family member, or just looking to be more inclusive—there's a place for you in this conversation.
💙 What Autism Acceptance Looks Like
Acceptance starts with shifting our mindset. Instead of asking how to "fix" or "change" our kids, we start asking how we can support them, empower them, and honor who they already are. Here are a few ways to do that this month:
✔ Listen to Autistic Voices: Whether it’s adults sharing their lived experiences or nonverbal children communicating in unique ways, every voice matters. Inclusion begins with listening.
✔ Create Sensory-Friendly Spaces: Whether you're hosting a party, attending an event, or visiting a public place—consider the noise, lights, smells, and crowds.
✔ Advocate with Compassion: Speak up when you see barriers—at school, in the community, or online. Advocacy doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. Sometimes it starts with a quiet conversation that changes everything.
