January 2020 Exhibit
The Washington County Arts Council presents “Pure Spirits the works of Robert Stuart Cohen” at the Gallery from January 9, 2020 through February 4, 2020 with an Opening Reception on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 5pm until 7pm.

The Arts Council will host Mr. Cohen’s Artist Talk on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 2pm to 4pm.

Mr. Cohen says, “A love of color, variety and illusion define my artistic endeavor. Currently, I am visualizing a dynamic, rectangular plane in various contexts. I try to balance the rational and impulsive by using both carefully rendered and spontaneous techniques. I incorporate variety by combining various styles and assembling multiple canvases. The resulting images are metaphors for balancing order and freedom, extending boundaries, and bridging differences.”
February 2020 Exhibit
The Tenth Annual Washington County Art Educators Exhibit opens at the Washington County Arts Council on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 5pm until 7pm. The exhibit which continues through March 3, 2020 will feature an Artist Talk on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 2pm until 4pm.

The exhibit, sponsored in part by the Mary K. Bowman Historical and Fine Arts Fund, a fund of the community Foundation of Washington County MD, Inc. provides an opportunity for the community to view recent works by Washington County's public, private, home-school, postsecondary and retired art educators. The exhibit demonstrates and validates to students an increased awareness of the arts through multiple media. "Art Educators of Washington County" Annual Exhibit is intended to "instill within the Washington County community the importance of arts…” and demonstrates the skills of the community's art educators.
The first exhibition of the new year at TAG/The Artists Gallery is based on the 100-year-old art movement known as Surrealism. The exhibition is titled "surREALLY? - Where Dreams Meet Reality" and seeks to examine the intersection of dreams and reality in the artistic process. Or, how the subconscious mind impacts the conscious doing of art. TAG is marking the 100th anniversary by filling the gallery with surrealist-inspired art. The show will include works by members of the gallery as well as artists invited to contribute works based on the theme.

The exhibition opens on Friday, January 3, 2020 and runs through Sunday, January 26, 2020.  An opening reception for the artists is scheduled for January 4, 2020 from 5 to 9pm. TAG/The Artists Gallery is located at 216 North Market Street in Frederick, Maryland. Gallery hours are Friday and Saturday from noon to 9pm and on Sunday from noon to 5pm. Learn more at theartistsgalleryfrederick.com or by calling the gallery at 301-696-8187.
