Hello, I am Liz Turner and I run Bake Erie. I've had a passion for baking my whole life and became a foodie while living in New Orleans for 10 years. I returned to Sandusky to bring my creative take on baked goods to the growing downtown. Ask Me Anything!
Do you enjoy cooking meals and other foods?
I love cooking meals as well as my baked goods! It is even better when my husband gets in the kitchen and we can talk and cook together.

What is the first thing you would do if you won the lottery?
The first thing I would do if I won the lottery would become debt free. To have that peace of mind, ahh, hopefully in the near future!

How do you define success?
Success to me is definitely a feeling more than any numbers or achievements on paper. To feel proud and happy with the life that you have made is true success.

Where do you see your business in 10 years? If it ever came to, would you ever
potentially franchise?
In 10 years I hope my business is established and trained enough to supply to other businesses, featured in cool publications from across the country, sought after by people in larger cities, and providing jobs for local community members. And yes, I would potentially franchise eventually if I felt that growth worthwhile.

What challenges have you faced while starting up a business?
The challenges I have faced while starting up this business are just knowing what to do, step by step. It actually took me awhile to realize that nobody was going to tell me what I needed to do, I just had to figure it out myself. And even though I would accomplish many things a day, there would be just as many things added to the to-do list!

What made you start your business?
I started Bake Erie to do something with my talent and love for baking that would make my family proud. I moved my husband and two sons to Sandusky to start this business venture and for them to be seeing it come to fruition is just priceless.

What is something that I can get here that I can’t get anywhere else?
At Bake Erie you can get such a variety of things from every corner of the country and beyond! The rotating menu will showcase trendy baked goods but I will also be including my twist on the classics. Having lived in New Orleans for 10 years I will definitely be having varieties of bread pudding, pralines, and beignets!

Are you excited, nervous, or anxious to open your new business?
I am very excited, nervous, and anxious to be starting this business! They are all very normal feelings in this process so I keep pushing through the doubt.

Marketplace at Cooke

Developed by Meghan & Rick Hogrefe of H2 Property Management, the Marketplace is located in the heart of downtown. With multiple street entrances, the H2 team thought it time to bring “malls” back to downtown. After a $7.5M transformation, the property will open as an indoor retail space with a mix of local shops, food and entertainment. Locals will love the common spaces, as the Hogrefe’s have constructed a history walk through the City of Sandusky with art and artifacts of Sandusky through the ages. Additionally, they are bringing a Children’s Museum to the Lower Level of the Marketplace.  Join us for the Grand Opening on Saturday, April 27.

Bake Erie and other businesses moving into The Marketplace are supported by RISE - the Regional Incubator for Sustainability & Entrepreneurship.
