Become a HopOn Coach – Free Training in the Lakeland Region!
The Saskatchewan Cycling Association is hosting an in-person training session for anyone interested in becoming a HopOn Coach — a games-based cycling program, developed by Can Bike, that helps kids across Canada build cycling safety skills.
Date: Saturday, August 22
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: 510 Cynthia St.
Lakeland District for Sport, Culture, and Recreation is covering the cost for 7 participants from within the district. This is a great opportunity for coaches, volunteers, and rec practitioners looking to bring cycling programming to their community.

Lakeland District for Sport, Culture & Recreation is proud to kick off Research in Recreation, a new virtual lecture series connecting community sport and recreation practitioners with leading researchers, in partnership with the Community Sport Research Group at the University of Waterloo.
First up: Dr. Katie Misener — Building a Sustainable Volunteer Workforce in Community Sport and Recreation
Dr. Misener will share evidence-based strategies for recruiting, engaging, and retaining volunteers in community sport organizations — with practical approaches to recruitment, onboarding, recognition, and succession planning. Walk away with actionable strategies to reduce turnover and strengthen your volunteer base.

National Coaches Week is a month away
From individual athletes to entire communities, coaches leave a lasting impact through their contributions to the Saskatchewan amateur sport system. During National Coaches Week, and every day, we encourage all participants in sport to say ‘Thanks, Coach!'
Learn more about how you can show your gratitude to coaches with the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) Participation Guide.
If you are a coach, CAC will be offering free or discounted NCCP workshops during Coaches Week.
The Coaches Association of Saskatchewan (CAS) will also be offering free NCCP courses during that week, as well as Women in Coaching Breakfasts in Regina and Saskatoon.

Building Communities Strong Fund to Support Parks and Recreation Infrastructure
Government of Canada Build Communities Strong Fund is set to provide $51 billion over 10 years, starting in 2026-27, and $3 billion per year ongoing. to support new and renewed public infrastructure.
This includes projects such as community centres (multi-purpose facilities), parks, local sport and recreation facilities, child and youth centres, libraries, and dual-use buildings (community and emergency use).
