CHAPTERS

Wyoming’s Wind River Back Country Horsemen have been busy this summer

In May they demonstrated packing and hi-lining horses at the Wyoming Outdoor

Weekend.

In July they cleared a portion of the Continental Divide Trail.

In August they built and installed hitching racks at Wolf Creek Trailhead and also at Bonneville Trailhead, both located near the Dunoir area near Dubois. In addition to working with the Forest Service, Wyoming Game and Fish provided the skid steer to drill holes.

New Mexico Gila Back Country Horsemen Chapter

The New Mexico Gila Back Country Horsemen Chapter just secured funds and added stalls at what most folks know as the Woody Horse campsite. This area has beautiful trails located close to Indian ruins. Stalls are first come first serve.

BCHA Update on Government Shutdown

As you’ve heard by now, the federal government shut down after Congress failed to reach a deal over how to extend funding before its October 1st deadline. This is not a new topic for many BCHA volunteers. The last time this happened was seven years ago.

The shutdown could be short-lived, yet includes ceasing or severely reducing all federal services except those deemed “essential” during the shutdown. Federal employees have been instructed either to stop working (furloughed) or to continue working without pay until a federal budget or continuing resolution is passed by Congress and signed by the President. During the shutdown, there have also been threats of mass layoffs.

How will the government shutdown affect public access and our volunteer work on public lands? The short answer is: There are few specifics at this point.

Museum Sponsor Fundraiser Donate Here

Back Country Horsemen of America has been given an incredible opportunity to forever be part of the National Forest Museum. BCHA has been approached to donate $15,000 to the museum, and in return BCHA will have an interactive exhibit in this museum with an expected 50,000 visitors per year. This has enormous potential to show people who we are and what we do for decades to come, benefitting our members and organization nationwide. National membership, interactive exhibits, exposure – the benefits are amazing. Please help BCHA raise funds to accomplish this incredible goal and to get us on our way to losing the best kept secret title! Campaign ends December 31, 2025. READ MORE....

MOBILE INCIDENT REPORTING FORMS

You might have seen the request to submit “incident report forms” for e-bike interactions and horse camps occupied by non stock users, to help provide record of the issue. Of course it is always great to talk to people directly if you can do so safely, however submitting a report can demonstrate a pattern of issues to help change rules or encourage enforcement.

Did you know that you can add these forms to the home screen of your smartphone? Instructions on the website here https://www.bcha.org/incidentreportingform/
