Front Range Back Country Horsemen Trail Clearing BLM land adjacent to Huerfano Wildlife State Area in Huerfano County, Colorado

20 devoted members, including folks from Arizona and Missouri BCH chapters, cleared over 78 trees across 4 trails and collected all the remaining barb wire on the BLM property. Representatives from BLM and Colorado Parks and Wildlife joined in on the project providing both a UTV and ATV for tree and wire removal.

The project, started in 2018, is a culmination of chapter effort resulting in removal of the wire and to clear fallen trees from four trails in the area, significantly making the area much safer trail users in the area.

In attendance were more than 20 people and horses including folks from Missouri and Arizona along with a BLM rep and two people from CPW.

New Corrals in time for hunting season!

During hunting season, Woody’s Corral Trailhead, gateway to the Gila Wilderness, is crowded with hunters, equine, and trailers, but only 4 corrals.

Now there are 8 more corrals at the trailhead thanks to a joint effort between Gila Back Country Horsemen, the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, New Mexico Department of Wildlife, and Gila National Forest. And funded by New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Outdoor Recreation Division’s Trails+ Grant.

The new corrals are designed to improve access and enjoyment for horseback riders of all kinds.

Remote, Abandoned Outfitters Camp Gets Beautified by BCHA New Mexico Chapters

BY CECE KAYANO

Members of the BCHA Jemez Chapter, plus the president of the Santa Fe and Hermits Peak Chapters combined their enthusiasm, route finding skills, and problem-solving ability to ride cross-country ten miles into the San Pedro Parks Wilderness northwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico, to pack out an abandoned outfitters camp.

One year ago, the US Forest Service asked the Jemez Chapter to pack out the garbage located on the west side of the wilderness, a location without trail access. But the request was tabled as the chapter focused on clearing trails.

Museum Sponsor Fundraiser Donate Here

Back Country Horsemen of America has been given an incredible opportunity to forever be part of the National Forest Museum. BCHA has been approached to donate $15,000 to the museum, and in return BCHA will have an interactive exhibit in this museum with an expected 50,000 visitors per year. This has enormous potential to show people who we are and what we do for decades to come, benefitting our members and organization nationwide. National membership, interactive exhibits, exposure – the benefits are amazing. Please help BCHA raise funds to accomplish this incredible goal and to get us on our way to losing the best kept secret title! Campaign ends December 31, 2025. READ MORE....

MOBILE INCIDENT REPORTING FORMS

You might have seen the request to submit “incident report forms” for e-bike interactions and horse camps occupied by non stock users, to help provide record of the issue. Of course it is always great to talk to people directly if you can do so safely, however submitting a report can demonstrate a pattern of issues to help change rules or encourage enforcement.

Did you know that you can add these forms to the home screen of your smartphone? Instructions on the website here https://www.bcha.org/incidentreportingform/
