Monroe Street Midway opened its doors about a month ago in downtown Detroit. Located east of Campus Martius and north of Cadillac Square, it is Detroit’s first and only outdoor roller rink! Monroe Street Midway offers a roller-skating rink, four half court basketball courts, food trucks, concession stands, and more.
Walking up to the entrance the bright fence around the space will automatically put a smile on your face with its inviting artwork. All of the artwork and murals on the midway were done by local Detroit artists Sheefy McFly, Phil Simpson, Olivia Guterson, and Jessica Care Moore. Visitors can get two hours of free parking by stopping at the skate-rental booth for parking validation.
The Monroe Street Midway is fun for the whole family with plenty of seating and affordable prices with free entry. The venue is open every day of the week. Reservations are recommended for skating and skate rental, especially on the weekends. Skating lessons are even offered on Fridays for newbies. You can expect different daily themes such as R&B Tuesdays and Throwback Thursdays. With rotating food trucks, as well as concession stands, you will be able to find something for all of your food needs.

Back to Business:
Face to Face
How many faces do you see hidden in the branches on this drawing of a tree? Three? Four? The actual answer is 10. Can you spot them all?
It is really so fantastic to see my calendar filling up with in-person meetings. There are still a number of Zoom meetings on the calendar, but the balance is beginning to shift. It does not mean that Zoom meetings will be eliminated. I will say that in many circumstances Zoom meetings will be the new preferred method. Before the pandemic no one knew of Zoom…at the most we were using Facetime, but that was typically reserved for family & friends that were out of town. Now for short committee meetings I will be recommending Zoom (or Microsoft Teams). The old “conference call” is still useful; however seeing people’s faces on the screen is so much more personal. What has been your experiences with Zoom? I found that when someone actually moderated the calls and developed an agenda, they were successful. When they are “open mic night” they seem like skits from Saturday Night Live!
How many of you have transitioned from working from home into now working in the office? Our team at Meeting Coordinators, Inc. is doing a mix of both. With that in mind, I thought you might enjoy the below cartoon too:
"No, I'm not familiar with the dress code...but I'm pretty darn sure that jammies aren't on it!"
Happy 33rd Anniversary
Meeting Coordinators, Inc.
Where does the time go? I am so enormously proud to announce that as of this month we at Meeting Coordinators, Inc. have been in business for 33 years. I moved to Michigan from Washington, D.C. after working for an international membership organization. I was receiving so many inquiries from Detroit area professionals asking me where they could hire a logistics expert like myself. I was referring them to colleagues in D.C., Chicago, New York or LA. Obviously there was a need, so with a deep breath I took the plunge and opened Meeting Coordinators, Inc. to fill that need in 1988. The entrepreneurial life is certainly not for the faint of heart…it can be a rollercoaster ride but worth every high and low along the way. Our business during COVID-19 like most had to layoff staff and run lean and mean but we are once again riding on up. I am so incredibly grateful to my clients and staff for their flexibility and stick-to-it-iveness to get us through this pandemic. Last month I told you that in honor of July’s title of National Ice Cream Month we will be hosting a staff ice cream social. Maybe we can find some “champagne ice cream." Thank you for all your support. CHEERS!
Speaking of support and getting together, let’s golf. Meeting Coordinators, Inc. is planning the following golf events which are open to members and non-members. We are also looking for donations. Should you have logo items you would like inserted in the goodie bags, please let me know.
