Father’s Day
June 16th is Father’s Day. Most of you are familiar with Northmont’s practice for many years now of taking a collection on Father’s Day in honor of the fathers and other important men in our lives and on behalf of the men at the Northside Common Ministries Pleasant Valley Shelter, which serves Pittsburgh men who have run into rough times and find themselves homeless.
The shelter accommodates roughly 25 men every night of the year (with the highest occupancy rate of any shelter in the area), providing them with safe, secure sleeping quarters, a hot shower, and a warm evening meal. They are also provided with spiritual nurturing, counseling, and medical support.
For years, Northmont has been a very active supporter of the parent organization, NCM, an affiliate of Goodwill. Another mission of NCM is the Food Pantry for which we conduct a couple of food drives each year. Northmont committees and organizations provide one of the meals for the men’s shelter each month of the year. NCM plays a very key role in Pittsburgh area mission, and they have always been very grateful for the support
So please consider aiding the men who utilize the shelter by making a contribution on June 16th, in honor of the men in your life. You can make a gift by using one of the pew envelopes or your pledge envelope for either cash donations or for checks made payable to NORTHMONT U. P. Church, marking the contribution for “Pleasant Valley Shelter”.
