Today, we announce the official retirement of our dear friend and colleague, Jeffrey P. Fuchsman, effective December 31, 2022.
Jeff joined the Firm in 1988, and was made a partner in 1991. Over his 34 years with the Firm, Jeff litigated hundreds of employment cases in state and federal court, including cases involving claims for wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, and harassment. Jeff also headed up the firm’s class action practice and served as lead counsel in over 150 class and representative PAGA actions. During his distinguished career, Jeff was counsel in key employment cases decided by the California Supreme Court, various California Courts of Appeal, and the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Jeff also co-authored several chapters on wage and hour law for the State Bar CEB series (Wage and Hour Laws, Advising California Employers and Employees; Payment of Wages and Overtime, California Wage and Hour Law: Compliance and Litigation).
Jeff told us years ago that he would leave the practice of law and become a full time mediator when he reached age 65 and he’s done just that. Having amassed a very rich and varied experience practicing law for 40+ years, Jeff has now opened his employment mediation practice (Fuchsman Mediation, LLC), which will enable him to use his experience and expertise to assist parties resolve their toughest employment disputes. We owe a debt of gratitude to Jeff for all he’s done for our clients and for the Firm. Jeff truly exemplified the qualities we’d all want in a lawyer and business partner. Knowing this day was eventually going to come, Jeff stepped up to ensure that the Firm would have the bench strength to fill any void left by his departure. Through his leadership, mentorship and guidance, numerous attorneys in the Firm are able to fill in for Jeff with the skill and dedication needed to service his many clients. Our wage-hour class action defense and litigation teams have never been stronger.
Everyone at the Firm is rooting for Jeff’s success in this next chapter of his life. However. we are confident that before long Jeff’s knowledge of employment law and his calm and thoughtful demeanor will make him a “go-to” workplace mediator. The entire BRGS family will miss our partner, colleague and dear friend.
