Last Sunday's Service

Sunday is a very special musical communion service in observation of All Saints’ Day. The Chancel Choir will be joined by the Academy Chamber Orchestra to perform the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré. The names of those who have died over the past year will be read. It is sure to be a serene and moving experience. Please plan to attend in person because the service will not be recorded.

THERE WILL BE AN ALTERNATE RECORDING THIS WEEK. IT WILL NOT BE THE ENTIRE SERVICE AS IT WILL HAPPEN IN THE SANCTUARY, BUT AN ABRIDGED VERSION.

After several years of absence during Covid, Northmont people will once again be able to help give a proper Christmas to those less fortunate than we.  The Angel Tree will be set up in the foyer of the main entrance off the parking lot. Simply choose a gift tag or tags from the tree, then return your unwrapped gift(s)  between November 5 and December 3. Gift cards can be placed in a container in the church office; other, unwrapped, items can be placed in the designated box in the church library.

Last year’s holiday toy drive for North Hills Community Outreach provided new toys, games, and other gifts to 821 children.  Northmont has always been a generous church. May our efforts be fruitful once again this year to help families in need in our community.

2024 Stewardship Campaign

On behalf of the Steward & Finance Committee, we would like to thank you for your thoughtful and prayerful participation in this year’s campaign.

If you have not yet sent in your pledge, please feel free to mail it to the office when you can so we can get an accurate sense of how to structure the budget for the coming year. If you have any questions, contact Pastor Ben or a member of the committee. Thank you.

Thank Offering Service

A tradition at Northmont is for the Presbyterian Women to organize the Thank Offering Service.

The theme of this year’s Thank Offering is Colossians 3:14-15 — Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.  And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.

Sunday, November 12, the speaker will be one of our former Youth Directors, Lisa Tweardy Buckingham.  Lisa currently works with Head Start doing home visits in the Uniontown area with families who have very young children.

SEVEN life-changing ministries for 2023 are funded by our Thank Offering Giving – 1 is international and 6 are in the United States.  More than 40 percent of the projects funded are health ministries such as the project in Zambia, Africa which will provide rural residents with access to a health-care facility closer to their homes.

Would you please consider giving to help those in need here and throughout the world.

PW's CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

Presbyterian Women’s Christmas Luncheon is back and will be held on December 8, 2023 in Polley Fellowship Hall beginning at  11:30 a.m., with lunch at 12:00 p.m.  Tickets for the catered luncheon are $18.00, and will be sold before and after church on November 19 and 26 or by contacting Sarah Jane Beorn, 412-952-0662.  Come and enjoy “Here We Go A-Caroling.”

Hymn of the Month: October

Update for Sunday, October 22: When I introduced October’s tune, VINEYARD HAVEN, I called it a “twofer” because there are two texts we will sing it to. In fact, we’re going to have a “threefer” with the tune! Recently I was given a copy of an article by Northmont’s former music director, Todd Alexander, which referenced the Isaac Watts hymn, “Come, We That Love the Lord.” I was surprised to see that it wasn’t in the Presbyterian Hymnal, so I went looking for it elsewhere. The first book I grabbed was the Episcopalian, Hymnal 1982, where it is set to VINEYARD HAVEN. I took this as a sign; it will be our opening hymn this weekend.
