Players are often told about what they need to work on to improve their game. They are given a list of areas that they have room for growth and should focus on when training on their own or with their teams. While there will always be areas for any player to continue to improve, how much time is spent on the skills that player is doing exceptionally well.
What makes players "different" than others is not what they can do well, it is what they can do much better than any other player. When a player is told they are doing well in certain areas, they tend not to spend as much time working on those skills.
In reality, the opposite should be true. The player should spend more time on areas where they are showing great promise and growth. Go from being good to great. Great to exceptional... it is those qualities that will separate players as they get older and compete for spots on higher level teams.
