“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
- Theodore Roosevelt
Friends and colleagues, I chose this quote from President Roosevelt as the ideal way in which to sum up the privilege of serving CAHIP as president this year. Working together, with volunteers up and down the state, we have accomplished so much. Yes, we have all worked very hard and given countless hours to our organization. But when we look back, the work has been both challenging and meaningful.
Just look at what we accomplished. It is all about “We.”
We defeated a single payer and a Medicare Supplemental bill. We came along side our lobbyist, Faith Borges, and changed lobbying firms to give ourselves a stronger voice in Sacramento and we started working with Jaffe to run the many facets of our organization, as we work to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
We improved overall communications and greatly increased our social media reach. We
provided additional support to our local chapters, following their critical feedback. We built
relationships with many new sponsors. We had the most successful annual conference CAHIP has had in years, with both attendance and revenue generated.
We cut operational costs, while investing more in membership. We launched a new (and now ongoing) member orientation. We met with dozens of legislators and their staff, as we fought for our industry and to prove the value of the agent. We helped solidify our partnership with Covered California. We hosted three terrific events in one year (Region 8, Capitol Summit, and Innovate). We also helped increase sponsor dollars for several chapters.
Over the course of my term, I have had so many great opportunities to serve, including making and receiving hundreds of phone calls, reading and replying to thousands of emails, participating in, and often running more than 250 meetings, speaking at many chapter events, and I had the honor of being the first NABIP emcee when I hit the stage at the Capitol Conference in Washington, DC. Yes, the work I have been a part of has been exhausting at times, but I will miss being your president. Because of CAHIP, I am a better professional and a better person.
Thank you for making that happen. And thank you for allowing me to serve as your President. This past year was an amazing experience, and I wouldn't change a thing.
That's because WE made CAHIP better.
Wishing You All the Best,
Tim Kanter
2023-2024 CAHIP President
